This question has now been up for over 18 hours - so I think it's safe to say, that no one has a clue! It seems, that we need a little help after all, burt.

Without giving anything away, could you tell us if both these men were world champs as well as HOFers?

Also those 2 astounding coincidences, they share in their fight records... is the operative word here "share"? I mean, those 2 things - are they only off the charts, because our two HOFers met each other? You know, if someone retired with a career record of, say, 79(42)-8(3)-4, that in itself would not raise any eyebrows... but if he had fought someone else who retired with the exact same numbers, that would be truely astounding. Or would those 2 coincidences still be in their records, and be just as amazing, if the two had never fought?

Yes Bukkake,They were both World Champions and HOFamers..They both
shared two boxing related things [not birthdays],that were so unusual
coincidences...Both are long dead, and each was unaware of these two
    events that tie them together...
Hint-One died tragically...The other after retirement went into show business.....

Hmm... 2 great HOF-champions, rugged and tricky, almost impossible to knock out, fought each other once, one went into show business while the other died tragically.

This sure sounds like Greb and Rosenbloom - but I can't put my finger on those two amazing coincidences. I'll have to think harder!

Bukkake, yes it was Harry Greb And Maxie Rosenbloom...Great job...What are the two odd coincidences ?
1 They both ended up their great careers with 299 recorded bouts !
2 And most astounding, with 599 recorded bouts between them, there is
NO SURVIVING FILMS OF THEIR FIGHTS!!! NONE...
Just think about that ...Two of the busiest fight records in history, and
No surviving films of both of them...
While almost every great champion of their times and before were filmed
at least once, but these two immortals, were somehow overlooked !!!
    EERY I believe....
    3. one other thing they shared in their 299 bouts apiece...
they were both stopped only once by opponents blows...
Harry Greb in his 12th fight in 1913, by the experienced and heavier
    Joe Chip...
2 Maxie Rosenbloom was stopped only once also , by Tommy Milligan
of England with a body blow, which Rosembloom claimed was a low blow..
As the old adage says " Truth is stranger than fiction ". And it is...b.b.

I also have both and if you go by the Ring Record Book they both had 299 total bouts and both were KO'ed twice.

hh,according to THE BOXING REGISTER,Maxie Rosenbloom had 299 recorded fights..And Harry Greb was stopped by blows only once, not taking into account the bout in 1915 when young Harry broke his arm,and had to retire in the second round...b.b.
At any event Greb and Rosenbloom were almost impossible to kayo !!!

I was actually thinking about their almost identical records - but since BoxRec have 298 fights for Rosenbloom and 299 for Greb, I figured it had to be something else.

But there can be no doubt that the fact that there is NO footage of either man, is VERY strange. That many fights - and not a single one on film! This must be boxing's greatest mystery.

Anyway, thanks for the trivia, burt. A very interesting question, and I really enjoyed the exercise - even if I only got the boxers right!
