After Burt's trivia question the other day, regarding the amazing coincidences shared by Greb and Rosenbloom, I thought it would be fun to mention Young Papke... a busy lightweight from the 20s.

If you take a quick glance at his record on BoxRec, it looks nothing out of the ordinary... but a closer look reveals some of the most unbelievable coincidences, I have ever seen! I mean, what are the odds of this happening:

After his first 88 bouts his record was 28-28-28 (and 4 NC)
After another 19 matches it was 34-34-34 (5 NC)
And after yet another 30 fights his record was 44-44-44 (5 NC)

Quite extraordinary, if you ask me!

Well, it's not nearly as coincidental as that, but Juan Manuel Marquez and Orlando Canizales have an identical win/loss/draw record (to change soon, geekunfortunately). Both have 50 wins, both have 37 of them by knockout. Both have 5 losses, none of which come by knockouts. Both have exactly one draw.

I'm going to bump this, because I can't believe none of the other extremely knowledgeable boxing geeks has something to add to this thread. It's impossible.

    Something's wrong with your numbers:

    28 + 28 + 28 = 84

    84 + 19 = 103 (3 x 34 = 102)

    102 + 30 = 132 (3x 44 = 132)

Not too researched but I'm going to contribute. Both Michael Spinks & Jermain Taylor beat guys who had 20 title defenses in a row. The fights look similar too. Holmes hurt Micahel and Hopkins hurt Taylor.

edit: And what's also weird is that both Spinks and Taylor suffered their first ko loss two years after beating the guy who had 20 title defenses in their division at that time. Of course Spinks lost to Tyson two years after the Holmes rematch and JT lost to Pavlik two years after beating Hopkins twice in the same year.

You have to factor in the NC fights:

    28+28+28+4NC = 88
    88+19(of which 1 is a NC) = 34+34+34+5NC
... and 30 fights (with no NC) later the record says 44+44+44+5NC
