sounds like a really good fight, who would take it? both guys have fast hands and can hit like a brick. maybe slinks qould outbox him from a distance by using his jab but I would like to see what would happen if foster has him hurt. thoughts?
I've been in the minority here before, but I honestly think Spinks's style plays more into the hands of Foster than vice-versa. I don't see too many (any, honestly) fighters at this weight boxing a conservative, pick your shots type of fight against Foster with much success. His jab and relaxed, zoning in style of punch picking make it hard to see any Lt. Heavy getting the better of him at this game given his poise and technical skills (along with his otherwordly punching power). Foster by late KO. This coming from a guy who loves Spinks.
I agree, Foster had brilliant technical skills: a stance that made him look like he was trying to take a dump, falling in like a drunkard, non-existent defence etc.
Though he was eventually stopped I thought Foster showed pretty good D against Earnie Terrell considering he was at a size disadvantage in not only weight but height, which didn't happen often.
Spinks would probably decision Foster due to his awkwardness and Eddie Futch.Plus, he would immediately let Bob know that he was no joke in the punch department, and that would help set the tone for the fight.
I see Spinks winning this one. Spinks was that high level guy who could move up and fight at heavyweight when Foster always failed.
How is that relevant in any way shape or form? :-( Boxing history is littered with examples that are the complete opposite of what you're saying.
Hold on, I haven't entered this into my Mariti file yet. Just a second. Monzon Mayweather Foster Okay, I've got it.
Michael's lateral movement was excellent in that awkward string marionette way of his, and he could sustain it for 15 rounds. He also had no problems with the power of Marvin Johnson, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Qawi or Cooney, among others. Bob, on the other hand, had his right foot in the bucket. The Jinx wasn't a 22 year old Mike Quarry. He wasn't going to be put out by a single shot because of a momentary lapse by any light heavyweight, even Bob Foster. Michael could stick and move, and when he did stop, he had the chin and power to keep Bob in check. That versatility takes Michael to the decision win.
My pick would be Spinks. He showed that he could handle big punches like Duodenum stated. I know styles make fights, I think that Spinks would have the style to beat Foster. Also, Spinks beat much better fighters then Foster did, and some of the ones that Foster lost to, Spinks would have beaten.
