Let's say Tyson goes to prison in late '94 instead of '92. How do you think the general public would have reacted to this fight and how would it have been hyped?
It was hyped no end in 95/96. It could of been the Real Deal and it was a low blow to the sport that it did not happen!
the brawl in brooklyn wouldve been interesting press conferences too. bowe and Tyson don't **** around.
How about Tyson doesn't go to prison at all (the actual trial was an unjust shambles), and gets his ****ing act together by signing back with Cayton & Rooney. It would have gained massive publicity, i'm sure I heard that it would have been a $100million superfight.
In 95 and 96, all the hype was over Tyson-Foreman or Tyson-Bowe. It would've been very big, two New York heavyweights in what would've been bound to be an exciting fight. However, Bowe was firmly not part of Don King's plans for Tyson at the time. Unless he signed for King, I don't think he's getting the shot for quite a while. Foreman, at least, was in the plans for the end of 1997.
The Cayton plans for Mike Tyson are an interesting what if. Cayton wanted to keep him much more active than King.
And keeping Tyson more active would have benefited Tyson's skills. King was too worried about Tyson doing other things outside of training & fighting. In the build-up to Douglas, King had Tyson all over the place, doing this appearance, doing this interview, etc. When Tyson was released in 1995, Rock Newman, Bowe's manager, stated that he felt a bout between the two would break the $100,000,000 barrier!
Tyson could square off with a kangaroo this weekend and it would be more hyped than any Klitschko fight.
The fight was actually described back then as a $100,000,000 superfight. But you know Don King couldn't get Bowe to give him options. They danced around it for a little while but Golota sidetracked Bowe for good.
I suspect even today, Tyson/Bowe would still get more mileage in the media (in the UK) than Mayweather/Pacquiao; boxing is that sick now a days...
