Valuev would school that bum! If Ali lost to one of the shortest HW champs of all time, he ain't beating on no 7'2 beast! That's for sure!
You make some fine points there mate but all that one can say derogatory about ali is about what bad choices he made. Hes only a man at the end of the day. Flesh and blood like you or i. Boxing-wise is a different story. As you already pointed out (correctly i believe) few choir boys become champ and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, even if it aint pretty. Obviously not biting or **** like that
When it comes to Ali things for some reason quickly come to "he was not the saint the liberal media makes him out to be, etc, etc" and then every accusation or loose suspicion about him becomes absolute truth. The only other fighter people here are as quick to accuse of underhanded acts and morals is Sugar Ray Leonard. Every thread about him sooner or later derails into "he tricked Duran and Hagler" and "he denied Hearns a rematch until he was shot" etc. Probably it's because they are seen as the darlings of the media and the establishement. As for Ali I think his greatness is there to be seen in his record and I don't think he was given more favours than most great champions.
I was. I said, "as an icon of boxing virtue." The mainstream media canonized and martyred Ali as a cultural icon of pity on sympathy decades ago, something even Muhammad finds sickening. Within the sphere of boxing itself was what I was referring to though.
:good Woah, two thumbs way up. I'm not sure if this is more true for any other fighter. Usually, there are apologists for all fans. Or conversely, people making justifications for fighter's being more past their prime than they really are (Frazier vs Foreman).
It's really hillarious with Frazier fans who claim Frazier was way past it against Foreman and in the last two fights with Ali, but become irate when one suggests that Ali wasn't quite the same after his long lay-off.
Too right it's not, it's a Microsoft Paint job...and one of the worst one's I think I've ever seen. Still funny though.
i am a big joe louis fan. number one all time. but this statement is untrue. For one, louis was realistically only 1-1 vs walcott and schmeling...while ali wa 2-1 vs frazier/norton. also, ali beat every decent puncher/boxer of the era. he left no names. louis, missed out on fighting some of the decades best contenders like muuray, ray, bivins(1940s), thompson, bobo, franklin. ali literally fought and beat everyone.
I'm very impressed by Louis record in title fights, though. Sometimes I feel it doesn't get enough consideration. To compete 27 times for the richest prize in sports and win 26 of these is really something. Even a mediocer fighter may turn into killer for one night when that much is riding on it.
