Who has the weakest punch of all the P4P greats? Who's got pillows for hands? Hits like a schoolgirl on ketamine?
Tommy Loughran...What he accomplished in his career, fighting everyone that hit harder than he did...He was a remarkable boxer for a lightheavyweight, to survive and prosper.
Pep fractured Bartolo's jaw in producing the knockout which settled all featherweight title claims. Like Pastrano, his kayo percentage may have been as low as it was by choice, not limitations. Loughran and Rosenbloom might be good candidates here. Tommy started out with very respectable power, but brittle hands soon compelled him to change his approach. Not sure what to make of Slapsie. In some of his title fights, he actually produced some stoppages and quick knockdowns. He dropped Bob Godwin twice in the first of a title unifying effort, and decked Lou Scozza in the seventh of an NYSAC defense. Typically though, he hardly ever tried inflicting hurt on an opponent. His KO percentage of 6.38 is the only one below 10% of any champion I can immediately identify. Nicotino Roacche had just 14 stoppages in 117 wins, but his power looked decent when he loaded up on Fuji. If Joey Archer is accepted as an ATG, he claimed that his knockdown of SRR was only the second flooring he ever produced in his career. Miguel Canto could be mentioned as well. His only stoppage on camera was against Jiro Takada. He didn't produce a knockdown though, but stopped his challenger with sheer volume accumulation.
You don't knock 65 fighters out with pom-poms, A. Willie looked like a little boy in trunks, but you tattoo a rock often enough 'n it breaks.
jg, so true..Willie could hit when he set himself...I saw him drop a 135 pound lightweight Allie Stolz with a beautiful one-two...b.b.
Willie foughta hell of a lot...I tend to think a lot of his opposition weren't up to much, so I would attribute the 65 knockouts to that. A KO ratio of 26%. As I say, not pillow hands but I think he warrants a mention here.
Featherfists: Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, Nicolino Locche. Light Hitters(just a bit above "featherfisted"): Billy Conn, Teddy Yarosz, Kid Gavilan, Young Griffo, Pernell Whitaker. Jake LaMotta was a fairly light hitter as well. As were Gene Fullmer and Harry Greb
