I actually almost included him in my first post but hesitated for some reason. I agree. an awesome swarmer/slugger hybrid. This content is protected Hail.
Frank Klaus was considered one of the greatest bodypunchers and inside fighters of his day. Ad Wolgast and Bat Nelson deserve a mention as well.
Have to check out Henry Armstrong much more then. thanks my friends. oh, yes, Gina Gershon has great lips The predator
James Toney deserves a mention here. He nearly never gets hit clean but lands plenty of clean shots himself. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone so relaxed on the inside. He's not as good as Duran or Armstrong as they were more relentless on the inside, but I prefer watching Toney.
Good mention. Yes, he is very underrated today. He beat Armstrong at his own game and had another close fight with him. Klaus wrote a book on it too. Very good call. :good Kid Lavigne?
Yeah, well, if a tree falls in the woods-oh, cool, I found gum in my pocket. ...ugh, never mind. It's that sugarless garbage. Anyway, if a tree is in the forest...is it just a "forest tree" or is it some kind of other botanical thing that we can't even comprehend, I ask you, ...mcvey. Thank you, brother. And for the record, I would "inside fight" Gina Gershon any day. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected But it would be nerve wracking, because I do not trust Gina Gershon at all, she frightens me a little bit. Strikes me as the type that just snaps and tries to break it in two out of nowhere, like it's a game and then has the audacity to get pissy when you say "No! No, you do not break that! Let it go, devil woman. That is not my idea of a good time."
Thanks Bodhi. Yup, definitely Lavigne. Though not an ATG, Ace Hudkins was an excellent contender from lightweight all the way up to heavy and a ferocious inside fighter(ask Mickey Walker). The "Nebraska Wildcat" absolutely wrecked Ruby Goldstein, who was being groomed to take the retired Benny Leonard's place on the lightweight throne, and was studiously avoided by welterweight champ Joe Dundee. Some sportswriters considered him second only to Jack Dempsey among the greatest bodypunchers of the era. Billy Petrolle wasn't called "The Fargo Express" for nothing. An ATG and one of the toughest, hardest hitting and most durable inside brawlers ever. A murderous bodypuncher on the inside.
I agree with Dempsey, Duran, Chavez, Armstrong etc .... Joe Louis deserves a mention. He tends to get overlooked as an inside fighter.
Surf-Bat,your mention of Ace Hudkins, brings up a lot of thoughts..My dad and uncle, were great fans of "The Jewel of The Ghetto",Ruby Goldstein, who was undefeated, and a tremendous puncher...He floored or kod every opponent til he ran into a neanderthal man in Ace Hudkins...In the first round Ruby Goldstein dropped the Nebraska Wildcat on his back. Surprisingly Hudkins got up from the canvass, andproceeded to give Ruby a lacing and kod Goldstein in the next round..Goldstein went down hill after that, and my dad was depressed as he thought that Goldstein would be the next Benny Leonard...But Ruby had a glass jaw..He did later on become a famous referee, and a friend of Joe Louis...And the tough Ace Hudkins went on to become one of the TOUGHEST middle weight fighter who ever lived....
Nat Fleischer had the following: BEST INFIGHTER: 1 - Jack Dempsey 2 - Sam Langford 3 - George (Elbows) McFadden BEST BODY PUNCHER 1 - Joe Frazier 2 - Tony Zale 3 - Paul Berlenbach
