...and punches harder than Floyd, but that Floyd is a better fighter because of his difficult style.

    ( Link: http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2158/who_punches_harder_and_who_is_faster_pacquiao_or_mayweather/ )

Marquez last fought Pac at 130, while he fought Floyd at 147 (remember, Floyd disregarded the catchweight).

    let's go point by point:

    - JMM saying Pac is faster than Floyd surprised me at first, but if you consider the weights, then it's not as surprising (though it's still at least a little surprising since I always thought Floyd was slightly faster.)

    - This one is surprising. I knew that Pac hit harder P4P, but JMM is saying Pac hits harder, period. And that was with Pac three divisions south of Floyd.

People might bring up the respective Hatton fights to show why I shouldn't be surprised, but there was doubt there since a lot of people claim that Floyd softened up Hatton's chin for Pac, Hatton was washed up, Hatton's ballooning between fights finally caught up to him, etc.

JMM is saying, no, straight up, even 130 Pac hits harder than 147 Floyd.

Maybe the increase in weight afftected JMM's perception of the punching power.

vs. Pac: 130 weigh in, 141 fight night (Pac was 129 weigh in, 145 fight night)
vs. Floyd: 142 weigh in, 148 fight night (Floyd was 146 weigh in, estimated by JMM to be around 160 fight night)

    - No one should be surprised by this. Everyone knows Floyd is a better technical boxer and better defensive wizard, by a wide margin. Pac's aggression leaves plenty of openings for counters.

Thoughts? How do Marquez' observations change your prediction for this, uhh, fantasy fight, if they change it at all?

I still believe Mayweather will win this. Marquez said his defense is impeccable and incredible .

Also look at all those comments at the bottom.
And they say mayweather fans are as bad as pacman fans............

It doesn't change what will happen in the fight at all. Even if manny might be a tad bit faster, Floyd knows how to cut down speed and make it useless. Mosley, who has some of the best handspeed, wasn't able to put punchers together, counter, or beat Floyd to the punch.

Anyways, if we go by everything Marquez claims then remember he also said Floyd will easily beat manny.

Floyd will force manny into a slow fight, neutralizing his speed and power. Floyd's excellent jabbing, timing, counters, and footwork will slow manny down.

manny is a great fighter, but he's very distance sensitive. He does his best work at mid range. Floyd is going to place his body and feet at the magical angles that leave manny extra vulnerable to counters when he decides to throw. manny is going to be forced to go off balance by lunging in just to try to hit Floyd. manny will get caught in the middle of trying to get his 1st or 2nd shot off, so we won't be seeing any usual amazing 4-5 punch combos.

I remember manny was worried about Floyd's speed right after he watched Mayweather beat Mosley.:think There was a thread about it with a quote and article.

An ancient DLH gave Floyd fits when he roughed him up. Floyd has never been 'great' against non-stop aggressors with good chins. Manny has deceptive range and throws straight punches. My guess is Manny whacks floyd good and floyd counters well, until Manny catches him with a straight left and finishes what a 38 year old Mosely couldn't...

Floyd's scared too. If he's ducking Manny, I have to assume he doesn't like his own chances...

Everybody who has been in with both (Marquez, DLH, Castillo who sparred w/ Pacquiao) has said Manny is faster except Hatton, who hasn't commented one way or the other. Frankly, Hatton probably can't remember his fight with Manny anyway.

Thats why they wanted a fight straight away.....because he was worried. yeah..I remember Freddie Roach saying that : "Floyd doesnt have the legs anymore" He is going to be stationary infront of PAC and eat so much leather he wont know what a dog or a gorilla is.

Watching from the Philippines, Pacquiao took special note of Mayweather’s speed. Quick himself, he said he will need to get even quicker to fight Mayweather.

“If we fight, I’ll need more speed because Mayweather is fast,” - emmanuel dapidran pacquiao

There is'nt anything suprising about what JMM noted......

Its easy to believe that Marquez as a 126 and 130 pounder felt Pacquiao's punches more than he did Mayweather's.....
Things to note here is that Pacquiao wears punchers Reyes gloves and Mayweather to protect his own fragile hands, does'nt.
Also note that a heavier JMM takes a better shot, so this is not an instance of a 130 lbs Pacquiao punching harder than a 147 lbs Mayweather.

On the speed......I'm not convinced that Pac's faster than Mayweather, but I can very well see why Marquez would say Pac's faster, because he throws alot more punches......where Mayweather punches in one's and two's.

I would bet if you asked Marquez who got off better with the first shot, he'd say Mayweather.....its called quickness.
Imo, Mayweather is significantly quicker than is Pacquiao.
Its easier to anticipate speed than it is quickness.
