Is Vasyl's father behind the decision to have him remain an amatuer until 2012?? If so, and though I hate to question a father's decision with respect to his own offspring, does anyone else think such a delay is unnecessary?? I don't know why he cannot begin his pro career immediately and spend the first 10-15 fights fattening up on no-hopers and later gatekeepers.
I can certainly appreciate your sentiments, but I think in Vasyl's case he's accomplished as much as he can in the amatuer ranks. Moreover, I think he earn money while learning his craft.
I'm a little surprised he didn't join the World Series of Boxing, which would've allowed him to get paid some as well as still be able to fight in the Olympics. Still, fighting the best amateurs in the world and racking up more experience isn't really a bad thing. He's young enough that he'll still have plenty of time to become a champ once he goes pro. I know where you're coming from though- he's a phenomenal prospect and I can't wait for him to go pro, either.
The question is why he should begin his pro career immediately? Vasyl was well paid for his Olympic success and does not have any financial problems in pure Ukraine. Now his goal is to collect as many amateur trophies as possible until his second Olympic gold in 2012.
