Who wins? From what I've seen of Dzinziruk, he has a beatiful jab and pretty nice left hand...I've watched him jab the **** out of Daniel Dawson and it was a thing of beauty! He controls the distance with his laser right jab and frequently sneak his straight left behind it. Miguel Cotto is relentless fighter with power in both hands...He tends to fight at a very nice pace...As of lately, IMO he's neglected his body work which seperated him from some fighters today! With that said, who do you think will win if they fought today?
if cotto boxes more like he did with foreman i think sergiy would win if he infights mercilessly and brings back the bodywork like you said he would win. i honestly don't think steward is the right trainer for him. he's not great at teaching infighting. cotto doesn't need to be a boxer. he fights.
Cotto brought the body work back against Foreman, and Dzinziruk is overated and flawed. Cotto eould KO him or outwork him to a decision.
not in any significant way he threw the left hook to ko the guy other than that his bodywork was very sparse
Also from judging from what I've seen on Sergy...He does tend to get sloppy at times...Dawson did land some good shot on sergy. Too be fair...I cant honestly give an honest opinion on this but if I had to choose him...I think Cotto would outpoint him given that Cotto has the better ring IQ needed to excute his gameplan. Sergie isnt the type of fighter that will imply non-stop pressure to make Cotto fight backwards!
Dzinziruk has a great jab but has been mainly inactive for 18 months until his last fight. Cotto takes him by decision imo.
I have been thinking about this fight lately...in a lot of ways I think its a bad fight for Miguel. But I also think he could ask questions of Sergei that others havent had the class to yet. Maybe its wishful thinking on my part that Cotto can take this out...Dzinziruk is very solid all around and would dwarf Cotto in there...he isnt getting any younger though..very interesting one.
I was watching his fight with Dawson last night and this fight instantly popped up in my head. No doubt it would be a damn good fight!
Dzinziruk would cut Cotto's face to ribbons with that razor sharp jab of his followed by straight lefts down the pipe until the corner stoppage later in the fight.
Hard to say as I haven't seen enough of Dzin lately. From what I haven seen though, he looks to have slipped. I will say as much as this; if the guy from the -06 fight with Santos shows up, Cotto will be beaten very handily. This is an underrated and sadly forgotten fight between two primed fighters. Watch it if you have the oppurtunity! Santos tested Sergiy's body in this fight and cracked him with some beautiful left hands and basically did nothing wrong. He stuck to the basics, tried to apply pressure sometimes but simply wasn't good enough. Dzin, when getting a bit too brave because of his superiority, was hurt later in the fight with a shot that would have put the lights out on many others. And since Santos IMO is - or WAS, should I say - the biggest puncher in this division that speaks volumes. I think he can take Cotto's power but can Cotto outwork him? Julio and Santos stole rounds with aggression and then we have his inactivity and age creeping up on him. Cotto sure as hell isn't outjabbing him and the Sergiy of -06 was fleeter of foot than Cotto is now. That actually partly won him the fight against the stationary Santos. So; could Miguel outwork and maybe even hurt Dzin without getting countered on the way in? In the Santos bout Dz hurt Santos several times with counters, thereby stifling is aggression. Cotto for all his admirable attitude can be countered very easily and vs against a guy with longer reach, better jab and prehaps better footwork he may have to take risks. Risks that may pay off or make him get countered and hurt (more likely). Can Dzin get his respect? Dzinziruk by UD, about 116-112, but I'll have to watch the Dawson bout. Dzin is no gunshy Foreman that runs so much that his offense becomes non-existent - he actually stood there with Julio and Santos. He has a much better jab, better guard (yes he has, Foreman's defense is mainly movement) and also a better chin. Look for him to counter Miguel's jab with his underrated right hook or whenever MC gets brave and then to control the pace most of the time with his jab.
I'm gonna have to go back a revisit his fight with Santos...I havent seen it yet to be honest with you. I havent seen to much of Sergy myself but I will enlighten my knowledge on him when I look at some of his old fights. You're missing out man, Dawson*Dzinziruk is a damn good scrap IMO...The only thing I didnt like was how Sergie was taking unnecessary shots.
