So let us assume that Bowe does not throw his WBC belt in the trash can and does meet Lennox in 93. Who do you think takes it? You can vote more then once, since I also put in the Primes option, I feel as though Bowe is in his prime here but not Lewis
I think Lewis might get too comfortable after outboxing Bowe for a few rounds and Bowe eventually finds him with a huge right uppercut on the inside while Lewis isn't really concentrated into the fight. Bowe KO 7 Lewis
In 93 Bowe's development as a boxer was farther along than Lewis's. I think Bowe would have won by TKO11.
I think Bowe has his moments early but Lewis takes an early lead but get careless and that second he lets his guard down Bowe will swarm him and stop him in the seventh round. Though 92 was his year, Bowe was still dangerous at 93 also.
Lewis couldnt handle Ray Mercer on the inside and he was outjabbed by Frank Bruno for the most part. Bowe was a capable infighter with a very good jab and right hand to get inside. I think Bowe takes Lewis to school pre Steward. Lewis just wasnt coordinated enough or good enough on the inside to handle a well polished fighter like Bowe at that time. I see Lewis resorting to slugging to try and keep Bowe off of him and Bowe stops him mid rounds. Bowe would be taking the fight to Lewis like he did Gonzalez but with better balance and technique in 93.
Amm i voted 93 Lewis instead of prime Lewis but i dont realy understand your question. In 93 I think the fight is close and Lewis needs to brawl like crazy from the outside like he used to throwing wide punches but the fight is probably in Bowes favour ever so slightly. Prime for prime. Lewis schools him.
The poll is multiple choice, the idea is to vote for who you think would win in 1993 and vote for who you believe would win in their primes. For instance someone might vote for "Bowe in 93" and "Primes Lewis".
I'd pick '93 Bowe over '93 Lewis but prime Lewis over prime Bowe. Once Manny got hold of Lewis he became a much, much better boxer. '93 and before he could be a bit wild and struggled with decent inside fighters.
He did become much better, but the one thing he never perfected was his inside game. It became more of a holding tactic rather than fighting, and Bowe was very good at throwing short hooks and uppercuts in the clinch. I think prime Bowe always beats prime Lewis, but Lewis makes the fight more competitive as he improved under Steward.
In 1993 I think Bowe would be outfighting Lewis from the inside & mid-range, whereas Lewis would be outfighting Bowe from the outside. However, slugger Lewis wouldn't be able to keep Bowe on the outside for any length of time (also if Bowe decides to box he would win at long-range too) and eventually gets stopped by a big left hook; Bowe KO6 Lewis. Peak-for-peak with '92 Bowe vs '97 Lewis, it would be an extremely close fight, but I voted Lewis as a 51-49 favourite.
Bowe was the better fighter and had the more natural talent. He was just too lazy to capitalize on it.
Based on the opinions of the Very Astute Classic Posters Bowe should have kept that belt out of the garbage sacked up and went and got Lennox.. For the record I feel as though 93 Bowe beats Lennox, but I feel as though once Lewis got with Manny and started to hit his stride he could beat Bowe!!
I think Prime Bowe will beat Prime Lewis, though obviously Bowes prime did not last very long. In fact, i dont think it is totally inconvceivable that Prime Bowe on his very best day could have beaten all before and after him. I dont believe it, but it isnt totally inconcievable.
