He did? Well then I definitely have to watch it. Even though my post mainly addressed Dzinziruk's strenghts his weakness (activity level and age) is a huge factor. I'm not sure about my pick and if you say a mediocre fighter like Dawson was able to tag him then Cotto might too. I feel Cotto has comparable overall skills p4p, it's just that he's so much smaller. Vs a counter-puncher technician with an excellent jab and control of distance to boot that's bad news. And I feel Cotto doesn't have the stamina nor the chin to thoroughly outwork him. It's not like Sergiy's feather-fisted.

What I would love to see though is if Cotto can test him to the body. He has basically neglected this since Judah, which is a shame. Whenever he hit Foreman and Pac, they felt it. And he needs to improve his one-handedness. I saw slight improvements against Foreman but he needs to do more. Pac could basically walk to Cotto's right after the double-jab - nothing came after it because of his lead feet.

    Thanks for the tip man!

I would favor Sergiy "The Razor" Dzinziruk to tear apart Miguel Cotto all night long.

Cotto, excellent as he is, I feel has been on borrowed time. And he's an excellent welterweight that snagged a 154-title. Not a legit 154 guy, imo.

people thought foreman would beat cotto. the razor is much the same. cotto has fought better opposition and evven not at his storngest weight he is by far the superior fighter. he would beat Dzinziruk pretty badly.

Excellent analysis, overall. Additionally, your observation about the Razor's capacity to absorb a few big shots from the heavy-handed Santos is quite astute, particularly as it relates to Cotto (Cotto eating a lot of jabs at the end of the Razor's reach and having to step up the intensity and take chances).

If, and admittedly it is a big if given Dzinziruk's recent inactivty hasn't had an overly deleterious affect on his skill level, I think the Razor outpoints Cotto in a fasion similar to what you describe (somewhere in the 116-112 UD).

Dzinziruk has excellent skills; I wonder, however, if he has waited too long to make his "mark" in the fight game.

    Dzinziruk by decision.

Cotto would never fight him. The best fight for Sergei right now is Kermit Cintron as he is highly rated by the WBO and he's the best name available in the WBO ratings. If I'm Sergei, this is who I go after.

A couple weeks ago Martirosyan's name was being mentioned but a couple days ago he's talking about Cotto now. Dzinziruk beating Martirosyan would be okay in terms of getting a win over someone with some American name recognition if he couldn't get Cintron.

Yeah, I don't hate a fight with Vanes for Sergei, but, I'd much rather him fight Kermit 'cause it would help better propel Sergei into a bigger fight. Hopefully, Sergei's handlers don't have him fight another nobody; they really need to do everything possible to make a fight with someone worth his time. Only problem is, I've read that Sergei has a high purse minimum (what that amount is I have no idea). So, that could potentially pose some problems.

Although he isn't a knockout artist, the Razor is stronger and a crisper puncher than Foreman. There were moments against Foreman that make me think Cotto's in for a rude awakening when he faces a true light middleweight punch from a strong athlete with good hitting technique.

They box around for a few rounds, and then Cotto tries to apply pressure but is unable to force the issue or get beyond Sergiy's jab, and Dzinziruk stops him late after a series of hard left crosses bloody up Miguel's face...maybe in the championship rounds.

Cotto's only chance is to rush him early and try to pound him out, which isn't his style and isn't going to suddenly work for him at 154.

I could see your scenario unfolding.

Hey IB, are you a Razor fan? Unlike a lot of the schmucks on here, you are well briefed on Dzinziruk.
