Anyone else think this is one of his greatest strengths ? As he's moved up the weights there's been times when i've seen him take some shuddering shots and expected to see him struggle. He just takes it and comes back stronger. Cotto was the best example, early on he hit manny with shots that he had no business shaking off so easily, given all factors including the rise through the weights and Cottos obvious quality. I love the way he absorbs punches. One of the best qualities of a pretty special fighter.
I think that's corrolates to his resiliency. I mean if u watch those fights with morales and marquez, he ate heck of alot of clean punches while getting his shots in. Some fighters when they're getting their asses countered with hard shots they get discouraged. Pac never gets discouraged he keeps coming and finds a way, his mental strength is one his biggest asset IMO.
Yeah it's all part of the same thing. My favorite type of boxers are the ones who thrive on getting hurt, and manny is right at the top of the list.
Absorbing punches ???? Personally, I prefer the role of "Pitcher" rather than "Catcher". And thats how I see it if PBF and Pac ever fight. PBF --- pitcher. Pac --- Catcher
True he could take a punch. I was on the edge of my seat in the cotto fight cuz he was getting hit clean early on. But he took it and punished cotto.
It may be to his advantage in past fights (i.e. demoralizing opponents, proving to himself he can take punches), but ultimately it just adds to the wear and tear. That is a primary reason why I feel Floyd would dismantle Pac-Man. Floyd has no scar tissue on his face, while Manny cuts easy. Floyd has been in a few semi-wars, while Manny has been in several life or death battles. Ultimately, Floyd is the fresher fighter. He'll open manny's face up by the middle rounds and pot shot him to death the rest of the fight.
