There are actually some really basic errors that I see when he counters. I think he sticks his chin out often, which I noticed and looked at even moreso after Roach mentioned it.

“Mayweather makes some basic mistakes- like when he sticks his chin out and puts his hands down- but none of it matters because of his speed."

If you look at his counters,he leans in with the punch and sticks his chin out while extending. He leans in, leaving himself off balance for an instant, and sticks his chin out making him vulnerable to a counter-shot or a fighter punching with him as he counters.

Take a look at those Mayweather-Marquez gifs. Two big shots he lands are the leaping left hook and the straight right hand. If you look at the way he throws that left hook, he leans in, tilts his head up, and swings wide from a distance. If you look at the Mosley round-2 gif, you'll see it was that same error that got him rocked. Mosley just dodged the punch and threw one along with him to land an overhand right on top of it. If he had remained with his back straight like a fighter fighting tall should, keeping the hook short, it wouldn't have happened.

The straight right hands he landed on Marquez and Mosley were both the same lean-in punch and the quick weave out of trouble right after. He's fast enough to do it, but if someone were to anticipate these basic counters with feints (which he is oversensitive to as was already mentioned) and had good handspeed then they could catch him with some good clean shots. Dragging him to a fight (which again someone already mentioned as a possibility due to his regret for getting caught clean) would make these habits come out even more and allow someone with speed to capitalize.

Volume is another way to exploit his tendency to prioritize efficiency. Floyd is obviously an extremely effective counterpuncher, but someone able to get inside and either eliminate the risk or weather the storm and wail away with several quick body-head combinations and then get out without overly aggressive attacks would win on the cards. Even if the output is not completely effective, the activity and the ability to go in and out to successfully execute volume combination punching could win on points.

Another tendency I see is to back straight up when flurried or hit above the shoulder over his guard. It's bad to back straight up in boxing as a basic rule because of the ability for the oncoming fighter to stay aggressive while you lean back off balance and remain at the same angle. DLH had success with his jab because Mayweather did not pivot right or left all too often and let him control the pace that way, He has great footwork and placement, but sometimes he's too stagnant in anticipation of setting traps. He doesn't seem to hit on the move too often successfuly.

Being able to adapt and execute multiple versions of a gameplan is the only way to consistently stay successful throughout the rounds against Floyd.

Mayweather has a solid chin. He has a very thick nick for a small guy. It's 16.5".

His chin could be 30"... if he can't take a shot he can't take a shot. The neck thickness helps him but all that tells me is that he would have been out cold without it. You can't sit there and tell me that Margarito didn't take worse shots than that for 9+ rounds and shook them off whereas the first one that landed flush almost seated Floyd on his ass.

Yeah no doubt Floyd is chinny. He's always looked very uncomfortable when he's getting hit. Corley rocked him a few times. Judah had him reeling back from one shot. No way you can say he has a great chin when it's barely been tested. A great chin means you can take continuous flush shots, not just one. He's got a average chin, which is just good for him since he doesn't get hit often anyway.

Floyd didn't see that one coming and wasn't expecting to get hit. Mosley caught him with a counter. He fights the slick, black-American style, so he doesn't go in planning to get hit and bracing himself for those punches. margariTOE on the other hand fights his Mexican style planning to take punches.

And no one was saying Floyd has a chin as great as margariTOE. His chin is up there behind Mosley. Don't be trying to put words and exaggerations into what I said.

His biggest weakness are southpaws. He's always fought differently against them and it doesn't suit him. There is no way Judah was good enough to take 4 rounds off Mayweather - It was just a stylistic nightmare. If Judah was an orthodox fighter, I think he'd get shut out and stopped in around 9. Same for Corley.

The shell defence doesn't work against southpaws. This forces Mayweather to change his style dramatically and of course he isn't as good as it. Frazier wouldn't have been as good, if he had to box southpaw or Ali wouldn't have been as good if he had to come forward all the time.

Floyd is a defensive fighter but against southpaws, he has to be an offensive fighter. He is only great at one style.
