After the left hand landed Byrd was never the same. His once solid nerves and chin were gone. Ruined may be too strong of a word. CHANGED may be a better word for what happened to Byrd after this fight and not all the change was for the good. Yeah, he only went on to win a heavyweight title twice while beating Vitali, Evander, Tua and some others. He was totally ruined. I admit though, Ike just leveled him. Hard to watch, I have to say.
Ruined? I want to know what your definition of ruined is? Chris Byrd got laid out, but he wasn't ruined.
Ibeabuchi was horribly slow and missed a lot of shots, some eastsideboxing people were asking if Ibeabuchi might have been better than Tyson HAHAHA
wlad-byrd II..that fight ruined byrd.byrd himself said that.he had the best training camp ever and was very motivated to revenge his loss, and wlad beat the **** out of him and knocked him out
THAT is more likely to be accurate than the Ike one. Byrd was already slowing down, and Wlad just put a beatdown from the Gods on dude.
That was painful to watch. If nothing else, one has to respect Byrd for always fighting big punchers even though he didn't have much of one himself and was small for a heavyweight. Wlad x2, Ike, Vitali, and Tua as his top 5 fights vs punchers is no joke.
One could only imagine what Ike could of done if he wouldn't of went to jail over 10 years ago. His fight with a prime Tua broke punch stat numbers for heavyweights back in 97'. He had power, speed, good overall skills. Alot of people seen him as the next big thing after Lewis. Sucks he couldn't control his inner demons, he could of been something special. As for Bryd, how was he ruined? He went on to become champ and win against alot of great names and became IBF champ. A belt he held until april of 06, when Wlad knocked him out. Bryd wasn't one of my favorite fighters, but he was one slick fighter who was able to defeat some heavy punching fighters during his reign.
Boxers get punched. Boxers, all boxers, have chronic brain injury. They are all "ruined". It does not have to show up on an MRI.
