Ashley Theophane won an MD lastnight over Delvin Rodriguez the IBF no3 I have always thought that Theophane is a good British fighter who flies underthe radar probably for a few reasons because he hasnt got a great style and notmuch power. I have always thought that te fact he hasnt got a promoter has hindered his progress and fights all over the world Germany and America etc have stopped him building a fanbase. They gut has shown flashesof being fringe world class beating DeMarcus Corley before he was completely shot who of course now has a shot at Maidana he won an eliminator for the British title but never fought for the title a close split decision win against highly touted Danny Garcia away could have gone either way and he has no beaten the IBF no3. With the division havinga few big names in at themoment unwilling to face each other Khan Alexander Bradley Maidana Ortiz is it possible that Theophane could get a shot at a title given that he is a fairly light hitter?
Great win last night. I thought he was in for a long night after a couple of rounds but he stuck with it and got the win.
Rumblings of a robbery over on the GF. I look forward to watching it later today. Nonetheless a massive win and a massive break for him, lets hope his career doesn't stagnate as it seemed to do after his win against Corley.
To me (and I had been drinking!), it looked like Theophane was doing enough to be competitive in the fight and give Rodriguez a decent scrap without actually winning too many rounds.
Good win for him, but most thought Rodriguez won clearly. You have to feel for Rodriguez, he's lost 3 of his last 4 but it could be argued that he won all 3, and at least one was an outright robbery.
Well got to hand it to him i hope he can kick off from this i do like his style in the sensethat he goes to america to get the sparring and do the training and doesnt mind being the away fighter and still wins decisions
Well I just watched the fight, interesting scrap. I enjoyed it. I had it 96-94 Rodriguez Robbery? I''m not sure to be honest. I can see why people thought it was a robbery, but I can also see the judges POV in regards to why they scored it for Theophane although finding 6 rounds to give to him his a bit of a stretch. Atlas had Rodriguez sweeping the first 6 which was absurd IMO Thoephane was far more accurate, Rodriguez was by far the more active fighter. Rodriguez really didnt land a damaging shot until the 9th round which could have cost him. Theophane has great defensive ability, if he can find the right balance between attack and defence and work on being more active in his fights he can become a bit of a force on the world level. Well done to him, hopefully he gets a bit more noticed now. I made a thread about this fight about a month ago and one person replied which was a bit suprising as it was a big fight for a British fighter.
Just watched it as well :good I agree, not a robbery. I think people were listening to Atlas to much, he neglected pretty much everything Ashley did, criticising for not throwing straight shots, while praising Delvin for missing consistently with his jab.
i watched it last night, didnt think he won but wasnt a robbery - that word is thrown around too often.
True, I've seen people on here call "robbery" and then produce a card with a 1 point split all in the same post.
lads ****in straight up robbery last night all he offered were a couple of loopin rights hands and not much else not complete domination by delvin but there no way teophane won that fight
