I watched 'Kid Akeem' Anifowoshe v Robert Quiroga for the first time yesterday, 1991 FOTY. Probably the only FOTY from the last 20 years or so. Great, great brutal fight :good

Both fought like complete warriors. Kid Akeem reminded me of Ali Funeka. Very tall fighter who doesnt use his height advantage but throws lots of short little shots. Quiroga loved to get in close and go to war. I wish I scored it properly as it seemed such a close fight.

Akeem collapsed at the end of the fight and ended up in a coma from a blood clot.

Both were only 21 at the time, but both are dead now :-( Quiroga was murdered in 2004, Kid Akeem died 3 years after the fight. Gotta be watched if anyone hasnt seen it yet :thumbsup

Saw that yesterday. Froch had no answer to the right hand and still doesn't as Kessler found.

agreed, amazing fight. I didn't know of the post-fight circumsances until I read into it after watching the fight and being astounded by both mens courage.

I KNEW there was something wrong when the cards were being sorted. You could just tell, I was just happy I hadn't witnessed a ring fatality, which is what I assumed it mightve been.

Collapsed and died after sparring a few years later. Sad.
