Does anyone have a link to the thread on boxing books that was on here sometime ago...:think

I am looking to buy some new reading and was looking to see what other posters have read and would or would not reccommend...:good

I have just read the Autobiography of Smokin Joe Frazier and am strggling like hell with the Ghosts of Manilla which I am reading back to back with it...In my opinion the latter is not a book I would choose to read by the pool again...

I have a book about Jack Dempsey and the roaring 20´s to read soon and a book about Sugar Ray Robinson too...:yep

I've lost my copy of Hands of Stone :patsch

Gotta say the best boxing book I've read is Four Kings.

I have an extensive collection of boxing books and the 3 I would recommend (if you can get them) are

    In this Corner
No Man Stands Alone (Barney Ross auto biography)
    Mickey Walkers autobiography

I'm gonna read it again. I never do that with books but Four Kings is an exception.

It'd be great if someone did a book like that featuring Eubank, Watson and Benn and threw in a bit of Collins.

I know, the early life in Chicago, his fathers death, Al Capone, then his stellar career, and then running guns to the fledgling state of Israel and his drug addiction, all told in his own words with no attempt to show himself in a more favourable light, just a fantastic read:good

One to avoid though is "Sorcery At Ceaser's". The subject matter could have made this potentially really good book (the Hagler-Leonard rivalry & build up to their fight) but it's somewhat tainted by the author's obviously biased anti-Ray Leonard views. It isn't a bad book by any means if you can overlook this, but there are far better books out there to get through first.

As mentioned the Teddy Atlas bio is a fantastic read, and any of Hauser's end-of-year compilations are great too.

I'm a self confessed Leonard fan but that book isn't just biased, it contains outright lies. Awful book if you are looking for an account of that fight and the events surrounding it.

    EDIT: er...IMHO!!!

    ;O)

I recently read Babyface goes to Hollywood, the Jimmy McClarnin story. Good little read.
As mentioned above four kings and Hands of Stone are two great books.
I read a good Sonny Liston one but I cant remember the title. something along the lines of "night train" or "ghost train" not sure.
Tapias book is good. Hes a crazy fool.
Never ever read Evander Holyfields autobiography. I genuinely think it was written by one of his kids, and one of the ones below 10 years old at that. (which only narrows it down to 17 of them)
I also liked Mamas boy, about Lennox Lewis.
