I became a fan after that. Man what a shot that was. I won't be surprised if news came to light that Jacobs broke something in his face after seeing how concussive that punch was.

Maybe they wanted to dump him. That happens on occasion, promoters aren't happy with guys and look to cut losses. Getting a guy thumped is the quickest way to get rid of excess baggage.

Or they rolled the dice or they thought he was the goods.

One of these reasons fits. I lean towards the rolling the dice option. If he wins, great but he loses, he can go back to Brooklyn with Zab. "Ya know what I'm sayin"

I just got done posting this on another thread. Much like they did with Bojado. Jacobs struggled with Walker and Smith, then was out of the ring for a long time, and brought back against Astoga?! To me, it appeared they lost alot of confidence in this kid. I couldn't believe the odds on this fight!

Side note, Pirog reminds me a lot of the russian hitman from the movie -RocknRolla.

Maybe, I tend to think they had no idea what the guy brought and they payed for it.

You could tell Jacobs didn't see either the punch nor the skill that Pirog has. I'm thinking they knew they were fighing a Russian guy and they prepared for a standard Russian fighter not a guy that could out slick you.

 Me too. Who the **** wants to fight a guy like that. Probably has bricks thrown at his chin during training sessions, has a lot of ability in regards to body movement and punching technique, and just walks you down. No thanks.

Pirog gotta start training with uncle Roger, Floyd Sr or whoever trained James Toney in his prime years
Pirog is really good in his defense just a bit rough around the edges....but no one is perfect.

Bring on Pavlik, the Punisher, Sturm.....not sure how well he would do against Martinez as I had never watched Pirog against a lefty mover.
But he could KO all the rest

Your right Pirog could do well in America, but I would like to see stay on the tougher European scene, where he will be tested, then we can assess how good he really is
