a question surely asked often but i am new to this forum and would like to share my own with you and compare. I found this forums weight division p4p lists very interesting. here is my list.. 1) Sam Langford 2) Roberto Duran 3) Bob Fitzsimmons 4) James Jeffries 5) Harry Greb 6) Sugar Ray Robinson 7) Jack Dempsey 8) Barney Ross 9) Willie Pep 10) Non Pareil Jack Dempsey 11) Barbados Joe Walcott 12) Benny Leonard 13) Jack Britton 14) Henry Armstrong 15) Mickey Walker
What's the criteria? Achievements, resume, or just skill/ability? My thoughts are just... eh. The bold ones are interesting. Never seen the two Jack Dempsey's in a top 10 P4P list. Number 4 would be hilarious even if it were a HW list.
I certainly think he should be. Who's #1 P4P then? Armstrong? And maybe even Leonard should be in there somewhere. I Don't like Duran's placement. Muhammad Ali could be in there too.
To have some fun. A mix of head-to-head and accomplishments. 01. Joe Gans 02. Packey McFarland 03. Benny Leonard 04. Sugar Ray Robinson 05. Harry Greb 06. Roy Jones Jr 07. Kid Gavilan 08. Floyd Mayweather Jr 09. Barney Ross 10. Sugar Ray Leonard
I like to see Packey McFarland getting a mention but I was wondering could you tell me a bit more about the criteria for the list. Surely Armstrong has done most accomplishment wise as a P4P'er. For me Robisnson gets top spot because talent wise he is unsurpassed. Duranium has to be on a wum. I'm new myself but he's got to be on a windup between this and his heavyweight list on another thread.
I'm not sure Fitz does but the others I agree on. SRR being #1 is an ingrained thought, but based on achievements and resume many have an argument for that position. If you think otherwise, you'd have to be far too rigid and set in your group-think ways, or perhaps just lack imagination. AND SRR is my #1!
Here's mine. I Have a lot of trouble deciding though. #1. Sugar Ray Robinson/Sugar Nikolai Valuev #2. Manny Pacquiao #3. Henry Armstrong #4. Oscar De La Hoya #5. Eric Esch #6. Floyd Mayweather Jr. #7. Sugar Ray Leonard #8. Henry Greb #9. Muhammad Ali #10. Joe Frazier
