Hopkins at heavyweight?

Haye would ruin him. Hopkins could not even beat a shot RJJ without his fake fouling bull****. Remember that? Remember that ****?

Haye has been known to rabbitpunch in his last fights soooo.....not a smart move on Hopkins part to face Haye but he's got balls to face him. He'll need a stretcher just in case though....

 

Hopkins gets murdered by Haye if they ever fight.
Hopkins is a feather fisted light heavy who hasnt stopped anyone in years! Last person he stopped was a blown up welterweight De La Hoya.
Hopkins powers wouldnt keep haye away. Haye would just walk through him and brutally knock the slower,older,lighter man out.

No, I go straight to the point that Hopkins could campaign quite comfortably as a cruiserweight due to his power increase (he dropped Tarver, he dominated Pavlik) at the weights he's gone up to so far. He's a technical master which gives him the ability to be in there with much heavier opponents and he's faced better more technically gifted opponents than Haye.

Haye hasn't been on an upward slide since he left cruiserweight - there is a reason he refuses to fight anyone with a pulse. Ask yourself what that reason is.

A shot RJJ still had uncanny handspeed and an awkward/deceptive style. It's hard to read him. It's not hard to read Haye. Trust me, Hopkins probably has Haye in the bag if they ever fight.

Short sighted post, everyone made this point about Antonio Tarver (who by the way, came into the ring around 195 against Hopkins) and how Tarver would be too strong and murder Hopkins. You saw what timing does against punchers who don't have timing.

Haye will do OK against anyone who cannot time their punches and anyone who cannot fight inside - Haye needs distance to throw, he's not a tight puncher.

Hopkins has had shots landed on him throughout the ages by good hard MW and LHW punchers and with the exception of Mercado where the heat and altitude got to him and Calzaghe where the sheer work rate broke him down, he's never once seemed hurt.

Look at the facts, not the hype.

Hopkins would have a decent chance against Haye because of their styles. Haye should obviously be favored by quite a bit but it is possible for Hopkins to pull off the win. If he does then his legacy skyrockets and he even spits on Jones Jr in the process. Haye > Ruiz

 

He has never fought ANYONE with the sort of power Haye has. Not even close. Haye was an absolute monster at cruiser(a weight division 25 pounds above anything Hopkins has even faced),which you can see from his knockout ratio.

Hes a good 20 pounds heavier than anyone Hopkins has fought.

Hes taller,stronger,hits harder,much younger and faster. Hopkins has shown nothing ion recent years that would make me think he can hang with someone like Haye.

Haye is a hard punching HEAVYWEIGHT. Something Hopkins has never faced. You cant compare Mercado or Calzaghe to Haye when it comes to punching power.Its not even comparable.

 

I am not a fan of Haye at all. But he'll execute B-Hop with one punch.

 

After Hopkins - Jones I'm amazed that anyone is arguing that Hopkins would be in there with a shout.

 

This plays into his hands, where fighters don't have huge workrates and tend to work off of their defense like Winky or simply try to load up and land power shots (Tarver, Pavlik) - he dominates them.

His cardio issues come against fighters who fight every single round (Calzaghe) - not fighters who give him time to take breathers.

He is shot, he's lost his leg speed and reflexes which make him a much easier target and his punch resistance is at an all time low. But, he still has very decent handspeed when compared to other fighters and is still deceptive in his punching style - ask Joe Calzaghe.

Exactly, stylistic reasons are why Hopkins has a great chance in this fight. Everything he does would spoil the style of Haye - Haye would really have to work hard to win and he's shown in the past, he's not always capable of this.

Jones Jr threw power shots at 160 (in his prime) that were comparable to some HW fighters - perhaps not Haye but still power shots. His chin isn't really questionable and more weight will make it easier for him to take shots.

But my point is - he won't really take shots. His defense is too good for the likes of Haye - tell me the last time Haye fought a guy with decent shoulder roll and an ability to evade 90% of the powershots thrown at him.

Because, Haye even now, doesn't have the handspeed and awkward angles RJJ still possesses.

 

you just missed the point hopkins has to take long breaks because his cardio naturally isnt great so adding muscle whitch in turn consumes alot more oxegen he will be rendered useless after 5 , and haye is so strong that the clinches that hopkins loves and works from will be a missmatch

 

Great post and I agree with all of it. I would love to see Hopkins win against Haye and then retire on top.

or maybe he should think about a cw title before retiring vs someone like cunningham
