    :deal
I couldn't agree more. He fought a dumb fight against Johnson the first time if he had just boxed he would have skated to a wide UD win.

Not in a million years, way too much risk for very little reward.

Tons of a reward. Dawson is a top 5 P4P fighter and considered the man at 175.:deal How can it not be?

Simple, Bute is in a good position. He's got a title, a high ranking at 168, he packs the house when he fights, and HBO is firmly behind him. A fight between he and the Super Six winner will be big. Why would he risk that by fighting Dawson?

I don't blame him- those are probably the best options for him right now from a payday and profile standpoint once he gets past Pascal. I think he will.

If there is indeed a rematch clause that gets executed, the climate of the division may be different a year from now when it's time to choose his next opponent. By then, more of the Super Six competitors would be on the table. Calzaghe will go to being an afterthought, Bute would be a great option, and maybe Cloud's team will put him in this time if he's still got a belt. Perhaps an improving Beibut Shumenov (or Campillo if he beats Beibut in the rubber match) could be an option, too.

175's still not a deep division, but there's enough out there that we could still see some really good matchups with Dawson.

    Exactly.

No need to risk his 0 either against a tough opponent at a higher weight when things are going his way in the boxing world right now. All Bute needs to do is take out Brinkley in stellar fashion, fight and win against some of the 168ers who get eliminated from the S6, and challenge Ward, Dirrell, or Abraham when they win.

What's so funny about it is I'm willing to bet Dawson would even fight him in Montreal since he's fighting Pascal there as well. Damn shame this fight probably won't happen though because Bute doesn't want it.

I think his power gets unfairly criticized because Adamek, Tarver and Johnson aren't the guys to get KOs against.

He did stop both of the C-level guys he fought after Diaconu pulled out and while waiting for Tarver, but obviously he's not a slugger.

Gary Shaw has said already that if Dawson beats Pascal they'd go back to Montreal for Bute. That would be WILD.

But Bute doesn't want it, and I don't blame him.

The T/S didn't mention it, but in that very same interview, Dawson said he wanted to fight at HW in 3 to 4 years. He also says he would fight Adamek and Haye right now.

Bute is a big SMW he could very easily fight at LHW.

Yeah - I doubt his team lets him take any risky fights between now and the end of the Super Six unless it's for a huge payday. Dawson just isn't a huge payday in all likelihood. Hopkins or Pavlik, maybe, but probably not Dawson.

He spent like half his career at LHW. And Dawson still claims he can make it down to 168. It would be awesome if Dawson could get down to 168 and they both put their titles on the line in different weight classes, Leonard-Lalonde style.

When it's all said and done, that's what it's about for almost every boxer at a certain stage in their careers.

The Bute team has already said they wouldn't go up yet to meet Dawson but they never ruled out a catchweight fight or one at 168lbs if Dawson accepts it there. They are completely open to what HBO asks of them at this point. HBO's where the money is, therefore if they say fight Dawson at 170lbs for a good paycheck, you bet they'll take it !!

Win or lose, Bute can always make decent money with a big crowd boxing in Montreal, especially with a huge fight against Pascal.
