Beautiful combination in the second by Pirog which Jacobs was lucky to survive! one right hand almost took Jacobs head off (2.38 second round). The way Pirog takes his time and uses the shoulder rolls and slips punches is beautiful. But he'll be tough to beat. Pirog Looks absolutely solid.
Jacobs should have been given a chance to get up, at count of 5 when he's about to the fight is waved off.
im impressed he is slick took some good shots nice variety of punches and he goes to the body and mixes it up
That showed up an over rated figher. Pirog, I dont know enough about to judge and cannot rate at this point. He did a job, but did not show very good skills in doing it, just desire and a punch. Lets see his next fight to judge.
I don't understand why he wasn't allowed to at least make it to his feet. Then the ref could of really seen what state he was in. I'm not saying Jacob would of won, but come on at least let him try and make it to his feet.
Pirog is nice with it. Very slick and fluid. Jacobs was a bit overrated though. Damn that one moron is ANNOYING. How is fighting out of a Philly Shell now "Eastern European Style"? What group of Eastern Europeans fight regularly rolling their shoulder and their lead hand down?
I can't figure out why Jacobs kept switching to southpaw when it was not effective. Nor can I figure out why he refused to even try to put Pirog on the back foot. If you listen to the Jacobs corner, you'll here them specifically instruct Jacobs to put Pirog on the back foot: "He can't fight going backwards." Jacobs got knocked out mostly because he backed straight back to the ropes with his hands down. None of the top guys have Danny's bad habits, and Martinez, Williams, Pavlik, and Sturm have much better ring intelligence, and a hell of a lot more experience, than Jacobs.
That's my big question, too. What happens against someone who manages distance better than Jacobs and is able to assert himself physically against Pirog? Maybe he'd be fine, but maybe not. At any rate, he's already 30 and probably is going to have to undergo a trial by fire.
Pirog has length, a jab, and good athleticism. I also seemed to notice that Pirog likes to "bull" in and stay close and/or he has a WIDE stance and could slide out covering distance quickly. It looked as though Jacobs couldn't put him on his back foot because of the jab and he was missing a lot. When Jacobs came forward Pirog "shelled up" and lowered his shoulder smothering Jacobs' shots. He looked slow and intimidated. I look forward to seeing this Pirog dude...
