The task is to rate heavyweights listed here on their chins, you must rate the chins out of 10 and you can use decimals but only in stages of 0.5. You will see how i rate the chins next to the names below:

    Ali 10
    Foreman 9.0
    Lewis 9.0
    Holmes 9.5
    Bowe 8.5
    Holyfield 9.5
    Louis 8.0
    Old Foreman 10
    Frazier 8.5
    Wlad 7.5
    Liston 8.5
    Marciano 9.0
    Johnson 9.0
    Tyson 8.5
    Dempsey 8.0

    Please use my Chin Scale:

    10 - Steel chin
    9.5 - Super iron chin
    9.0 - Iron chin
    8.5 - Good chin
    8.0 - ok chin
    7.5 - Below average chin

If you don't want to use my Chin Scale, then please post your own scale with your ratings.

    This doesn't make much sense.

Punch resistance doesn't improve. You can say he retained the resistance of his youth, but he certainly didn't gain any by getting older and fatter.

You could call him a lifelong 10. Just because Ali has a knockout victory over him in his prime doesn't mean it had anything to do with his chin. In fact, it had very little to do with his chin (or Ali's power).

I would give no one a 10, but Ali and Old Foreman come close.

I won't rate on that scale because you're going to have an awful lot of 10's and 9's. How is 7.5 a below average chin? A 5/10 would be average, therefore a below average should be a 4/4.5 at best.

His legs were stronger, he was more relaxed. It makes sense because Old Foreman chin seemingly withstood better. Maybe it was a balance thing...

Lyle was dropping around but Morrison, Briggs, Holyfield, Cooney, Moorer, could hardly pat a dent.

That is without a doubt the absolute worst scale I've ever seen.

George was fatter, but he was also much stronger physically, with significantly increased muscle mass. His neck and calf measurements both increased from 17 to 20 inches, and those are regions of the body less likely to be enlarged in girth by body fat. If his neck was getting fatter, and not more muscular, then where was the corresponding double chin? (Actually, when he was retired, he did go to the gym specifically to do exercises to get rid of the double chin he had developed, to no avail. Years later, when he was competing again, he took up weight training. One day, he looked in the mirror, and suddenly discovered that his double chin had disappeared as an automatic by-product of his general increase in muscle mass. He related this anecdote in a fitness column he contributed to Parade Magazine in the 1990s.)

No, I do not believe that young Foreman would have been able to stand up to the hooks Cooney and Morrison landed on the elder version, and I question whether or not Old George would have been dropped by Lyle.

Yes, I think comeback Foreman did have an improved chin. He was bigger, stronger and more relaxed, and he stood up to Morrison, Holyfield, Briggs, Stewart, Savarese, Coetzer and Moorer in extended bouts without hitting the deck (the sort of protracted duels he largely avoided in the 1970s). That second career lasted over a decade, and his chin was tested with considerably greater frequency in those 34 fights.

So you could say Lewis gets caught out by a lucky punch and Tyson gets knocked out when people land a few?

Maybe Lyle's a bit underrated (at least as a puncher). :think

Lyle could punch. That's not debatable.

No, his (alexvoce) description of what happened was utter shite.
Douglas had to pummel the stationary target of Tyson's chin with combinations round after round, snapping his neck back with big straight rights frequently throughout the beatdown fight.

lefthook puts it better than I can:
