Who would win this super six style light welter tournament?

If HBO line up six fighters in the light welter division just like showtime did with the super middleweights.....who will come out on top?

1) Devon Alexander
2) Tim Bradley
3) Marcos Maidana
4) Vic ortiz
5) Amir Khan
6) Andrey Kotelnik

 

I'll be adventurous and go for Bradley.

 

You should switch Kotelnik with Judah. But from that list I want to say Khan but um well we all know that aint happening so I'm going with Tim Bradley who has by the far the most experience or possibly Devon Alexander (need to see more of him).

 

Nah, dont think Judah has much left at that level anymore. Plus you'd hardly get 3 fights in a row out of him without him throwing his toys outta the pram.

What about Mabuza or Guzman? McCloskey?

Anyway, it's a bit of a pick-em, probably go with Bradley at this stage. We've seen the most of him.

IMHO if you are stretching for 6 fighters, just go with 4 and get the whole thing done in half the time.

 

I think Ortiz could still be a star. Hes a class boxer and he just fought the total wrong fight against Maidana. Granted theres a huge ? over his heart now but hes also got a good chin. He tok some monsters of shots from Maidana without going down, especially an overhand right at the end of the fifth? that nearly took his head off. I think hes going to come back strong.

 

add marquez or judah ahead of kotelnik.

The problem is there are 5 who you really couldn't leave out. The big 3 are Bradley, Alexander and Khan but IMO Ortiz should still be in the mix. That loss to Maidana was a blip but if he sticks to a strategy this time he would beat him. Before that loss he was considered Goldenboy's goldenboy-a star in the making and I think it would be a shame to leave him out a tournament like this. That leaves Maidana who I don't think is that great, BUT having beaten Ortiz and having huge power it doesn't make sense to leave him out either. He'll be thinking he only needs one monster shot against Khan to get another upset and he'll have a punchers chance against the others too.

 

Bah!! Rematch Ortiz and Maidana and bump off the loser....

 

You'd have to keep Maidana in a tournament, not because he could win it, but just for the excitement his style would bring. The other lads would have some tense tactical battles but Maidana could have some FOTYs.

 

I reckon Alexander would have a good chance . Urango's limited but before Alexander the guys who beat him treated him like a bomb you needed to defuse rather than going toe to toe with him . To actually go out their and stop him is pretty impressive . I'd swap Judah for Kotelnik .
I might be wrong but i wouldnt be suprised if Zab caused a few upsets. He's one of the most naturally gifted fighters in the world and a big step up in class from what any of the other fighters in that list have faced .
By all accounts Ortiz actually has a pretty poor chin. Certainly in reading Doug Fischers articles there were a lot of mentions of him being dropped in sparring even before the Maidana fight and that was always seen as the big question mark about him .

 

Not seen enough of Alexander TBH. Good job against Urango but Witter seemed pretty "done" in their fight.
