Well this isn't the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealthy or Austria-Hungary, not everyone shares your sentiments. Probably not the best idea to start debates on territory, lets stick to boxing. I'm sure any packed venue would be noisy and a great atmosphere. I would say it could sell as good in several places in Europe as it would in the US and i personally just think that US doesn't deserve it. Admaek and Haye are the only 2 fights the US are willing to show any interest in and for a bigtime fight like this the non fickle and true fans should be rewarded imo. Not saying there aren't genuine American fans but you get what i mean.
I will give Adamek big props for taking this fight if he does. Vitali is a horrible match up for him. Too tall, too skilled, too aggressive, too powerful, and one of the best chins in heavyweight history. V. Klitschko tko9 Adamek
In all fairness, that's like saying Gdansk (Danzig) should be German. I beleive the majority of people in Lwow were always Ukranian so Ukraine is where the city belongs.
Still, I think this could be a good shot in the arm for US heavyweight boxing. True, both fighters are foreigners but this is Adamek's second home and a large swath of the population in this area in America is Polish and Ukranian.
Technically, although Ukrainians were the biggest minority in interwar Poland, I understood they prevailed mostly in villages and smaller towns and the majority of people in larger cities like Lvov was Polish. This, however, changed completely under Soviets to the point that today roughly 1% of its citizens declare being Polish (so I do not see the point of Loufatski, even with my family having origins in this region). Back to boxing - I do not think it would be good idea to held the fight there. For Ukrainians, Kiev would be probably much better location... and Polish fans would rather prefer any German city than Lvov.
Not sure how many Ukrainians/Russians are in Chicago, but I know there are a lot of Poles, that would be a good option, but I think NYC would happen before Chicago, just because it is at least Adameks home. Lwow would be an AWESOME venue. I would love it. More then enough Poles living in Lwow to support that as a great idea. I like it!
Chef said he thinks Vitalis has settled on Briggs. So.........That'll do, bring it on. Adamek will certainly make for a legit contender next year against one of the three titleholders.
Lwow was originally established by Ukrainians but it was basically Polish for like 600 years. You would think that after Poland has been robbed and raped for centuries (especially WWII) it would have been able to retain that land. Instead it was given to Soviet Russia... like the Soviet Union deserved it or like the Soviet Union wasn't big enough.
The opponents are there. Trouble is that Haye, Povetkin and Value all turned their backs. Sosnowski is the man, and I trust Tomasz is willing to fight as well, for better or for worse. ****, if not for his arm injury I bet Golota would find a way to get into the mix as well. I love Peter's new attitude but sadly he'll probably lose his "nex" one.
