i remmember being at the ashgrove rsl and old diggers were crying at the bar almost...fkn great trilogy...
i have lost respect for Johnny lewis after his comments on tv about "what do you tell young kids that want to come into the sport" his responce was going play football . The sport has been great for him and he is worried about the next generation well dont burn it anymore than what it is!
lewis is a joke. he didn't train tszyu- he trained himself. tszyu just knew to succeed in oz he neededa supposed respected person in oz boxing and that fkwit happened to be lewis. he trained harding and fenech and that's it. andres was champ before him, st clair he was "invited" to the corner and tszyu per above.
Fenech didn't rip Johnny off nand he hasn't any dramas with him so would think that probably only good things to say about him
I think you have taken this comment in the wrong context Joe. If my son was to ask me about boxing i would also tell him to chose another sport. Boxing is a mugs game and one of the most corrupt, political sports we have. Alot of boxers will say the same, id much rather see young kids put their energy into somethning like football, or tenis than boxing and especially my son. If however he chose boxing i would support this, its just not the first thing i would want a young child to pursue, espcially if its one of your own. JL is a great bloke, you really have to meet him and have a sit down to see what the man is really like, dont judge a book by its cover guys lol
from people that i know who know him and have trained under him, they regard him as there father, they cant speak highly enough of him and ive never heard anyone say a bad word about him till this forum to be honest, im suprised.
I agree with TC. I took the comments the same way. Reading the book and knowing a bit about Lewis, you would know his passion and love is boxing. He is also a honest in alot of assessments he gives. To reiterate what TC was saying, Johnny was asked basically what advice he would give to a young athlete in boxing, he would tell him to play league. Basically saying there is more opportunity in that sport and they would be treated in a fair manner.
Lewis, IMO has always handled himself well in the media.. In 99% of cases, you could turn the volume down on the TV and almost second guess what Lewis had to say about any particular fighter, or fight result... Very diplomatic and smooth to ensure his or the games image was not tarnished. I find the scribble about Tszyu to be against the normal M O of Lewis, and Im also hesitant to suggest he's done it for a book sales pitch. Lewis and Fenech had a massive falling out. I doubt the issues came from Lewis' end, yet Im suprised to read the written words suggested on this forum regarding the books text..... and nothing suggestive of Fenech??? Maybe Lewis heeded warnings??? Unlike another who's book is ready for publishing soon. This person had several warnings and responded... "**** you".
They have had there talk phases and there not talk phases they had been pretty good up until the Fenech mitrevski drama, Johnny still doesn't have a problem with jeff though
