Strength in clinches is indeed one of the things where lifting weights would have more benefits. Like I said in the first post in this thread I never claimed weights don't have a purpose, but it doesn't seem to register at all.

Our argument wasn't over weights being useless, because I never claimed that. It was about me not using them
and thinking heavy bag work does more for a boxer, something you felt the need to laugh at and be condescending about.

Ps. the legs will benefit as well unless you throw arm punches. Every muscle involved in a punch will benefit from punching with resistance.

no, the argument was about you claiming only sport specific 100% (you said) and you also said doing exercises with weights will wreck your technique.

and i COMPLETELY disagree with that.

you claim that cross training or training muscles in a non sport specific way had no benefits.

i never said that skill and technique doesn't come first, but i said doing strength training will make you stronger and there for a harder opponent.

P.S get over yourself, this argument was never about you. It was about you claiming hitting a heavy bag will make you stronger then full body conditioning. I personally dont care if you lift weights or not, but until you try it, you have no argument..

No I didn't, that was about shadowboxing with weights, which ruins biomechanics because of the downwards pull, and might injure you as the weight is at the end of a limb. I also never claimed to only do sports specific stuff, but in terms of strength training it is what I get my fix from, but I do loads of manual labour as well (first post again).

You read things in my posts that simply aren't there.

"I get my power fix from bag work."

This was the remark that induced your roid rage and bunched up your MMA panties. Nothing more than that.

To be honest, both of you make good points. I think both heavybagwork and weights hav etheir place in boxing.

This could go on forever.. RDJ is saying that hitting a heavy bag is better overall for boxing than lifting weights, hes not saying that all you need to do is hit a heavy bag to have a good constructive boxing workout, at the end of the day if you could have 1 bit of equipment to train for a boxing match what would it be? heavy bag? or alternative strength training equipment?

Also about this strength training that works so well for you.. if it works for you why are you looking to performance enhancing drugs? it seems you really feel your not getting the development you desire from your workouts?, so maybe you should think about all this training your doing and if it is actually benefiting your needs as a boxer/fighter before turning to drugs?

The fact is all the strength in the world cant compare to technique, what good is having a strong muscle structure if you dont know how/which groups to use as triggers to throw the punch? you can have your little bit of strength and throw your shots with all the wrong/weakest muscles if you want, ill have technique and use my biggest/strongest muscles to throw the shot, while ensuring an allignment of my skeletal structure upon impact that will guarantee my bones to bear the force of the kickback to avoid losing power from any joints.

My take on it is that technique is more useful than strength, because i think there is always room for improvement when it comes to technique, when/if there isnt then ill spend more time/energy on building boxing specific strength by other means.

incorrect, how will this not make you stronger, if you are using weights it will make your shoulders stronger, it will not destroy your form because you will build muscle to prevent the '' pulling your punches down''..

This is a exercise you do for strength, and you might only do a few rounds, how will that destroy your form.

you also said the same thing about throwing a med ball in a punching motion using a pivot hips and core.

But you have never done this so you don't know, you can just dribble on about adaptability, science blah blah blah, but the facts are you haven't tried weights or exercises like this so you don't know the benefits they have.

Your preaching to the choir bud. We've had countless to and fro's about this on this board. There is a handful of guys including yourself who's opinions are worth any merit and that's because there talking from experience. The rest you just learn to ignore.

i am pretty sure i just read this....

downward pull of a med ball, blah blah blah

you preach a lot of **** and when you get found out you try to deny saying it.

the med ball will actually make you become more explosive, that's the whole idea

you have never done this so you wouldnt know, i guess we will leave it at that
