Kelly Pavlik should hire J. Mayweather or E. Steward right now rather than too late

Steward was so pissed at him during the Cory Spinks fight. I think that fight predicted the future more than we thought back then.

Taylor/Steward is a different story, Jermain was a natural talent who didn't match Emanuel's methodical teaching whereas Pavlik has the basics Steward likes and can work with. I always thought Kelly is a smart kid who often makes mistakes and bad habits related to gym work rather than lack of talent. He went all the way to the MW crown with Loew and without a conditioning coach or a nutritionist which is quite a story, but the holes in his rather effective game quickly became evident when he was taken out of his comfort zone. With the many mistakes came the bad corner advice in difficult times that lead to one-sided losses, and IMO that tells a story of Loew's limitations rather than Kelly's. I think Kelly could be a good learner under a professional training team, and if he's physically fresh to a new chapter, he can become a major force around MW, the training simply needs to be taken to another level.

I like Pavlik too much to want to see him turned into another Manny Steward creation. Pavlik is an exciting fighter with a shitload of heart and determination. Steward would try to turn him into a fighter he is not, instead of helping him iron out his rough areas.

I'd rather he just promote Miguel Diaz, who is already part of his team. Diaz usually gave him excellent advice in previous fights, and he knows the game. This man is important for Pavlik to have right now, even though Pav is 100% loyal to Loew.

On another note, I also really believe someone like Jeff Mayweather could get him to straighten out some key areas that could use improvement. What ever happens, let's hope KP's father Mike, Dunkin, and Loew all sit down and work something good out.

With the right moves in his camp, Pav can definitely stay at championship level.

There is an important factor here that most people fail to acknowledge, or out right deny. In every single one of Pavlik's poor performances he ignored at least 50% of Leow's instructions.

I think it is too late. These guys might add minor improvements and nothing more, he should have done that long ago. Trying isn't bad if Pavlik cares to do so at this stage.

I always thought Pavlik looked really basic and frankly, a bit slow in the ring. After the Miranda fight, I was lulled into thinking that he had a deceptively good defense and that the punches were traveling with a lot more zip than it appeared. After Taylor, it looked like the old 1-2 combo would be enough to carry this guy. Looking back, it appears to have been somewhat of a mirage....Miranda isn't the beast as originally thought by most and Taylor....

With that said, there may be enough there to work with if the right trainer could get his hands on him. He seems to have plenty of heart and will to win but does have the physical tools and/or capacity to be taught the skills necessary to compete at 168 which is inevitably going to be his weight class?

Anybody would be an improvement over Jack Loew at this point in his career. I don't know how much Emmanuel Stewart can get out of him, but Naz Richardson might be a better fit.

  12. Yeah definitely, He is serious need of an experienced coach. Emmanual Stewert has seen it all, I can't remember if Manny likes Pavlik but they would make a good team.

Kelly didn't get through the amateurs with the 1-2 and Jack was his coach then. He isn't sure himself how he got the nickname 'The Ghost' but he remembers his brother watching a fight and telling him he was like a ghost because he'd throw some punches and by the time the other guy tried to retaliate he was already gone, like a ghost. I really don't know how good Jack is or isn't as a coach. The 'fire the coach' mentality caught on with team sports because you can't fire the whole team. Maybe you have expertise in the field to make that call, I don't.

He needs a trainer who can motivate him. Coaching technique and all the knowlege in the world is a great asset for a trainer but Pavlik needs more than that. Roach seems to be the type of guy who does very well to get his fighters prepared in the mental aspect of their game as well as fundamentally. A guy like Roach is his best chance for success.
