ironically...i'm also a big hopkins fan. love rewatching hopkins/tito. watching him throw the straight right and duck under off the ropes...thing of beauty.
Really wow. Nothing wrong with being a fan of many fighters. I could write a long list of fighters I'm a fan of. I love the Hopkins/Tito fight too though I'm....also a Tito fan lol. I'm a bigger fan of Hopkins though so that fight isn't as bad to watch for me opposed to someone who would like Trinidad more.
Outside of the comment Steward made .... i do think stylewise they would be a good fit. I mean cmon ... a lanky guy with good power and a solid jab ? Steward would work on his footwork .. teach him lateral movement and tighten his D. But yeah if there is bad blood i guess Nazim would be the best choice. I don't think Roach would do much for him .... Kelly does not seem to have the style for it. Maybe far fetched but how about Nacho ?
I've been asking people in another thread exactly what their expertise to make this call was. I know I don't have it. I believe from seeing some remarks in other threads you may actually have some insight? "Fire the coach" has become popular in an era that you can't fire the whole team.
Heineken? You mean that crap that comes in a green bottle and is usually 'skunked' by the time you open it? He should have been unhappy he bought it in the first place.
That's not entirely inaccurate, speaking about sport in general here. But you're also doing an injustice to professional decisiona makers in sports. They know what they do when the fire a coach or trainer. Every new coach or trainer will change something and make adjustments but that isn't the main benefit, short term. A new trainer changes habits, brings new tension, gets rid of unsuitable people and makes athletes have to prove themself again. This can give a lot of short term success. The team pulls itself together. Change for the sake of change. Pavlik shouldn't wait too long.
I hoped for a summer tune-up for many reasons - stay in the gym, get the W and the confidence back, show he's ready to make $ sacrifices to work his way up, getting his marketability back on track. A Librado Andrade or one more step back in a 168lbs 10-round tune-up on a minor network / undercard would've been nice and something to build a fight on at the end of the year. Anyway, Pavlik fans shouldn't worry too much right now that there's no fight on the horizon, but about the end of August there should be something negotiated, whether it's Pirog, Williams or whoever. The best thing Pavlik can do in the meantime is light training.
i know...kinda unusual for this board. but i can't lie...i don't dislike that many fighters. there are some i'm indifferent too but overall i like watching good fighters fight. i enjoyed watching tito fight i enjoyed watching hopkins fight...
whats mike pavliks experience to make the call? dumb ass nobodies making any calls, people are just SUGGESTING what they think might be good for pavlik.
i can't pretend to know just how bad those cuts were that sergio gave him but with the way he's willing to take a few shots to land his own then i'm fine with waiting till the fall to fight i just hope there is a plan in place about how to proceed and not just take the first big name whether its a lmw or a lhw.
“I’ve never heard of the guy,” said Pavlik, who recently returned from a Hawaiian vacation with his wife. “I told everybody, the only way I’m going to fight at 160 is if a nutritionist tells me I can make the weight and be healthy. “If they offer the right money and a nutritionist said it’s OK, it’s a definite possibility.” - http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/aug/05/tension-builds-in-team-pavlik/ Sounds like people have been running off at the mouth without the bosses' knowledge!
this is what i'm talking about. i feel that kelly has so much more to offer but the people around him have to figure out what the hell the deal is. its very uncommon for the team to not by in synch as far as message goes. i think that this frustration is beginning to be an issue. kelly should just meet w/ the nutritionist, find out what his prime weight is, and just say this is the division i'm going to and that is that. there is a big money fight in whatever division he wants to go to.
