Barrera should've been DQed against J.M. Marquez.

It was blatant as hell, but it didn't look like a really hard punch. So yeah, I think the point deduction was enough... However, I would have supported a DQ.

Not much point, JMM wasnt seriously hurt. People came to see a fight so let it continue if it can.

The point deduction was ok for me since Marquez was able to continue... If it would have put him out, then I say yeah, DQ.

Until the ref breaks it up, you're still fighting. He waited for the ref, Nady was out taking a pissbreak, so Marco kept fighting :) The fact that MAB didn't get credit for the knockdown is a FAR greater injustice than him not getting DQ'd for a late shot, which was the ref's fault anyways.

Also, I'm pretty sure Marco wasn't actually hitting him there... he was trying to help him get back up on his feet, which is awkward with boxing gloves, so he kindly gave Juan some upward momentum under his chin.

No, the foul itself wasn't that damaging.

He was probably gonna call a kd but Barrera took his attention with that dirty shot.

This has to be the dumbest poll question ever presented. 1st off you must not like Barerra because wanting him DQ'd for your so called terrible foul is nuts. 2nd you can't even compare this to the Dirrell incident. Its not even in the same galaxy. Barerra held back and barely touched Marquez.
3rd Barrera's is the one who got robbed here. It was a legit knockdown and the moronic ref Jay Nady blew the call even though he was standing in perfect position to see the knockdown. There is no way in hell Nady could have missed it. He is certainly 1 of the worst refs in boxing. I believe this caused Barrera the fight. Not getting the knockdown certainly effected Barerra's mind set. It just ruined his momentum not getting the correct knockdown call.

Abraham-Dirrell was a bit worse, and Bika-Mendy was way worse. In this one the deduction may have sufficed; in the latter two DQ was absolutely the right call.

Barrera is king of the sucker punch. check out this highlight.
He gets Morales at 0:03, Marquez at 1:20 and Pacquiao at 1:29

Yeah, i'm sure this was the dumbest poll question ever. That's why it's like 60/40 in the voting.

But you are missing the point. What you and what most others are looking at is how hurt JMM was. Or actually, how little he was hurt. But i'm looking at intent. Barrera's intent was bad. He clearly hit a man who was down and unable to defend himself. Of course it does matter to some extent how hurt a fighter is after this illegal shot. But maybe it shouldn't.

Really, the only difference between Jones/Griffin and Dirrell/AA and this one is that the former two fighters acted or were really hurt after the illegal shot and that almost forced the refs hands. Maybe if JMM had faked it, he would've gotten the DQ.

What if Marquez wasn't made of steel, and layed down like mendy or dirrell, would you support a dq then?

And for the op, I support a point deduction (or two) unless the fighter is layed out (Dirrell, Mendy style).

I think the vast majority of people are going with that line of thinking. They look more at the reaction of the guy who was hit rather than the actions of the guy who initiated the late hit. Barrera's illegal punch is about as late and blatant as it can get. JMM is cleary down, not defending himself and he just lays into him. But i think the missed call by Nady probably triggered him to do that. So it's a tough call, that's why i made the poll
