When Floyd arrived at welterweight in 2005, Shane Mosley was active in the division, and Floyd fought Sharmba Mitchell. Five years later, after fighting the likes of Judah, Baldomir, Hatton and Marquez at welter, Floyd eventually stepped into the ring with Shane. Why at that point, and never before? I was reminded of something Floyd said in the lead-up to his fight with Ricky Hatton: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Was this why Floyd finally decided to get in the ring with him, when Shane was always there and always a viable, big-name opponent?
Fighting an inactive 38 year old fighter is cherrypicking of the highest order, and you can bet that as long as Pac continues to look spectacular he wont fight him he will be resting and waiting till he sees that Pac is slowing down and showing signs of wear and tear to come back and fight him he has done this in the past when he first went into a fake retirement instead of facing the other top welters and when he came back Williams was fighting at 160,Cotto and Margo both took beating and werent considered options cause of that and Mosley was a 38 year way past it inactive fighter when fraud chose to fight him.he has built his entire legacy around being undefeated and now hes doing everything he can to protect that "0" even if that means being labeled a coward by everybody.
the main reason he fought him was because at that time no one else to fight and because shane came inot the ring and baclked him into the corner, on worldwide tv. obviously anyone could do this and they wouldt get a shot but he point is shane was still the top ww in the world. they had to meet at some point
Layoff or not, Mosley was still the number 1/2 ranked WW in the world while Pacquiao's last two fights are/will be Margarito and Clottey. Mosley >>>>>>>>>>> Margo/Clottey, layoff or not. It was far and away the biggest challenge at WW for Floyd outside of Pacquiao and he took it. I bet I can find posts from you guys saying that Floyd is scared of Shane and will never fight him. He beats the crap out of him and then you guys downplay it. Just chill out and focus on justifying the Margo fight as legitimate.
I thought Mosley was the only other option?. I thought mosley was the man at the division? I thought that mayweather was forced to face mosley after the pac fight fell through? I thought mayweather was always scared of mosley? I thought mosley wanted the fight after mayweather schooled marquez, but mayweather was ducking him? How many more theories do you want to discredit the guy.
Popkins, to be fair, Floyd did chase Mosley for a fight on two previous occasions. Both of these were at a time then Mosley didn't have any lay offs, and was physically more prime. It was Mosley that turned away from those fights. But I suppose if there is one thing we can fault Floyd for, was his decision to take on JMM as oppose to Mosley (or any other welterweight) in his first fight back. But even then, he was coming off a lay off, and it wasn't too unreasonable to not pick Mosley for a warm up fight like that.
talking about wear and tear, this is the same reason pac fought oscar cotto and is now fighting margo. hatton other than that he fought barrera and morales way past their best. incidently his best wins haha:dead
Shane had already been training for the fight with Berto! So Shane was in great shape already and had no problems making weight as we all say at weigh in. Come on guys this is getting ridiculous!!!!!
earthquake and GBP had all conspired to make floyd take on mosley. now let's hope that he would fight pacquiao soon, a much younger, more relentless, will not gas-out in 3 rounds and a very active fighter.
Floyd also said Cotto's win over Judah was not very good because of Judah's inactivity following his fight with Floyd. I think its an interview with Brian Kenny about a potential Floyd vs Cotto fight. google or youtube it. Also, Nazim Richardson said in 24/7 how the inactivity was not a good thing but "you don't throw away a cadillac"
