Some roadwork of some kind is a good thing, but u can do other things too. Burpees, jump rope, circuit training etc will help build conditioning and make things more exciting. Check out http://www.rosstraining.com/articles.html for good ideas.
I've heard people say "A maximum 400m race has often been described as hell on earth" That must mean an 800m race is hell and back!
It is, not to brag but I qualified for state in the 800 (I got blown out of the water) and this race alone is the reason I quit track.. I hated it with a passion
Funnily enougth 2 years ago, I trained a 16 year old 1/46 his pb was. Only ran twice a week. most of the work was the gym, in a season He improved His PB by 13.4 in a season. Secret not a lot of impact, and injury free.
I love running. Constantly pushing my speed and endurance, it´s amazing. I love the feeling after a long hard running. Take a nice long shower and just lay down. Somewhat of a heaven to me. Gives me energy as well.
is it true that for boxing you have to build up base cardio first (by doing roadwork) then do some sort of interval training (sprints or something)? I think I kinda read that that in one of the threads here. I'm trying to develop my boxing cardio and I'm really starting from scratch (because I'm as fat as ****) so a bit of help would be great.
I don't think slow running is good for boxing. But, I do it for recreation and to get me into the zone. I hate getting chased by dogs though.
i love running, sometimes slow, sometimes fast, sometimes intervals. depends on how i feel. Mixing it up is good and long runs clear the mind, love the buzz after a good run.
