It doesn't surprise me that Calzaghe fought only bums because if its true as posters in boxing forums think and state that ALL boxers are bums, are shot, should retire or are over rated.

Also most of the fighters he beat never held a title because Calzaghe was so dominant in the division. Also for the other titles Ottke won a lot of dubious hometown decisions.

Omar Sheika was a 23-year-old prospect with 1 loss and had just beaten G. Johnson. It is not Joe's fault that he never achieved more.

WHY DID THESE FIGHTERS DESERVE A SHOT? The question shows a lack of knowledge.

Mario Veit was Joe's mandatory and ranked in the top 10 of every organisation, including #5 WBC. Again not Joe's fault that he never achieved more after they fought.

Tocker Pudwell was a LATE replacement for Thomas Tate.


What has Allen Green done to deserve TWO straight title shots?

Did Dirrell and Ward initially deserve to be in the Super Six ahead of Andrade, Bika etc?

The division was poor around that time. Benn, Eubank, Collins, Jones and Toney had gone. We had various WBC, WBA, IBF champs and Ottke.
Calzaghe beat who was there, Bika, Mger etc were decent fighters.
Some of them were a little rusty around the edges, so what?
A 25 year old Calzaghe with good hands and ambition would handle all the current Super 6 and Bute. The guy did everything that he could have, just perhaps his timing in coming to the front and taking certain fights was "out". Sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse.
