ShoBox: Chris Avalos vs. Chris Martin & Lateef Kayode vs. Alfredo Escalera Jr. RBR

Round 3

Avalos misses with jabs and hooks, while Martin calmly feints with his jab and lands right hands to the body. Martin takes this round.

 

Round 4

Avalos is countered hard with a left hook while flailing at him, seeming a bit lost. They exchange jabs and both find each other unwilling targets. Avalos finally lands a jab flush and it stuns Martin briefly, allowing a right hand to land.

 

Round 5

Martin pushing Avalos back with his jab and then scores with the uppercut. Avalos tries to guard against the jab but inevitably leaves an opening and can't get his hands moved in time to consistently keep the Martin jab out. Avalos counters Martin's jab with a hook and then begins to slip a few punches. Another hook lands. Martin goes to the body. Avalos sticks out his jab and sort of leaves it vibrating in Martin's face. Martin lands a couple of hard right hands toward the end of the round.

 

Round 6

Martin scoring well with the right hand lead from a crouch outside of range, using his reach well and upper body elasticity well. Avalos flurries at Martin, who ducks and weaves. Avalos takes a hook as he tries to swarm. Avalos gets his left arm trapped and keeps punching with his free hand. Lead right from Avalos falls short. Martin takes a lateral step and brushes Avalos' face with a hook. Avalos again reaches with a lead right and gets countered and then takes a flurry to the body, and holds on. Martin slips a 1-2 and then blocks a hook while advancing.

A draw through 6, IMO.

 

Round 7

Avalos flicks the jab and reaches with the right lead, as he's been doing. Martin cracks him with a counter right hand. Then a left hook catches Avalos in mid-routine. Martin is making Avalos miss the majority of his punches and hitting him almost at will, favoring the hook. Avalos goes to combination punching, but doesn't have a lot of snap or speed despite putting four or five together at a time. Avalos sets up a 1-2 with a double jab as Martin backs into the ropes and encourages a heated exchange where both mostly miss but it gets the crowd back into it.
