I thought Joe Louis looked shitty at age 36 in 1950 at 218 pounds against Buzzard Charles, but Louis did turn back the clock a bit later in 1951 at 213 solid pounds and 37 yrs for his KO loss to Rocco Marciano to cap-off his career.....

Got that bodybuilder v-shape. Pretty impressive.

Carnera was absolutely ripped to **** too, don't know why people don't remember that facet of Primo?

He still looked slow and shot as a fighter despite what he may have looked like physically. Sad.

Everybody ages different. And everybody continues to age even if you can slow it down. Stress, wear and tear, genes, life...

Carnera obviously liked to train. Carnera even looked good later in life after his boxing days were over. He obviously liked fitness, etc......

But Carnera became a heavy boozer in his 50s and his health declined....

Not sure if he enjoyed it, at least the boxing part. As far as I know his heart was never in that particular sport.

Not tryin' to rain on anyone's parade, but why's Walcott's physique relavint to boxing? In the genetic lottery, he was blessed, not because of intensive training. Grew up with winos just as shredded, but a stiff breeze would blow 'em over.

Marciano's training is legendary, but nothing in the world could make his body look like Walcott's.

So I don't understand the point of this thread. Is boxing settled in the ring or on the cover of a muscle magazine?

That's cuz his career was controlled by gangsters who stole his money, etc....... I'm sure Carnera would've felt differently had he been managed by a straight manager who truly looked out for him.......

Its hard to enjoy something when you are getting robbed blind by your handler's.......

True, the 30's could be a mans prime because the mind and maturity and thinking better and learning from mistakes. Another factor is how many burn-out fights did you have. once a fighter gets in his 40's as long as an older fighters does not have to train down and is moving up in weight, there are some factors like ring radar that come into play but the body starts to age...B-Hop really did not fight many wars as a middleweight and moving up helped him. he was actually stronger at 175ish. Archie Moore had a big wide shoulders and heavy arms, he was thick and he could go up to 190's and look the same as he did at 175. George Foreman was another that looked heavier than he was in career 1 and added the muscle in career 2, but what he lost in a physical sense he gained in experience and learning how to roll with punches and use less energy in career 2

I am 90% certain that Carnera had a thyroid condition that caused gigantism.

Naw... Carny really wasn't that big to be considered a freak..... 6' 5" tall and a ripped 260 pounds is just thought as very big, but not freaky like Nick Valuev.....

There is a form of gigantism where everrybody effected with it has a face strikingly like Primo Carnera's.

They are usualy much bigger than him and more flabby. I think he must have had a mild form of it.

Did read over the years, j, that Carnera was afflicted with that, like Abe Simon 'n Jack O'Halloran.
