how do you think calzaghe's resume will rank in years to come? do you think he'll be regarded more highly or not as highly?

now i personally think joe is a great boxer, but i think a couple of important things will effect his legacy. one is that he couldn't get the fights against the regarded best when they was in their prime, and when he did fight them they was old, and they still managed to knock him down.

now i rate calzaghe as a boxer very highly, but the actions he took in his career were decisions that i think effected his legacy for the worst. it shouldn't of took him ten years to unify the division, and it shouldn't of took him ten years to fight the very best. bad decisions in my opinion when regarding his legacy. his roy win wasn't great, and poses a question of if that roy managed to knock him down, what would a prime roy do?

shame because for a very good boxer, joe could of cemented his legacy alot better.

what do you guys and girls think?

not sure how it would change considering all the boxers he fought have since retired, all bar kessler (dont think hopkins will/should fight again)

I actually think his resume is pretty good. He went through an apparent stage where he was happy fighting the typcial Warren calibre tomato cans but there are some very good names on his ledger.

Sakio Bika would have likely unified a couple of the belts ove rthe next few years, were it not for that DQ.

That DQ will help disguise that facts regarding just how good Calzaghe was.

It'll be a long time until we have a fighter as good as Calzaghe..great resume but he'll always have his haters. I, for one, thank him for some great nights of boxing.

    Shite.

Not nearly as good as his talent deserved.

His resume is comparable with that of Hatton, Froch, Haye and Hamed - when he's more naturally talented than any of them.

that's the way i look at it. it's not shite, but i see what you mean. calzaghe was very talented, but for a fighter who's been a champion as long as he's been, his legacy should of been alot better. imagine what could of been if he fought roy and hopkins years years previously, instead he fought them right at the end of their career and still got managed to get knocked down without knocking either one of them down. great boxer, but legacy could of been alot better.

Its not great but its nowhere as bad as some people would like to think. As time goes by I think he'll get a little more credit for some of the solid, if unspectacular, wins on his record.

His record doesn't match his talent, but as all his fights are easily available people will hopefully see him in action and make their minds up rather than basing their opinion solely on record.

It's an irony that boxers aren't 100% judged objectively until they have been defeated.

Very, very good. Form of the fighters he beat will be largely forgotton and the names will remain. Of course jones was passed his best but most of the other wins will be held in fairly high regard. Undoubtably an all time great.
