And as a sidenote I always thought DLH had a fine left hook. Holyfield too. Bugner always said that Cooney had a better LH than Frazier. Cuevas, Olivares, Henry Cooper, Floyd Patterson and JC Chavez all had fine left hooks.

Good shout. It was a little deceptive though as he hooked of it so well, it wasn't as obvious and probabily why he wouldn't come to people's mind straight away.

I was always an Oscar fan to be honest, he had such a natural lean chin to chest tuck stance that was throwback in a lot of ways (almost Zarate-esque) What put me off him is when he f*cked himself and the fans over by becoming a part time fighter. In my view he lost "heart" which was probably brought to a head on Hopkins liver shot. couple that with those white pillow gloves that Mayweather was mandated to wear and all the smoke and mirrors, I just never saw it ending well for Golden Boy.

That 2 lb Forbes mirage was when i was like, i'm done with DLH! i'll stick to watching Michael Nunn, Sweet Pea and Mark Brelland tapes and be reminded of times when there wasn't smoke and mirrors like catch weight fights. To be fair though he was a heck of a fighter and everything was right about him from his stance, the jab, the shoulder roll, the AM career etc. The only other thing that pissed me off was times he held boxing hostage and the overrating of him by some...I'll tell you what i mean.

I'm watching Friday Night Fights one night and had to listen to Teddy Atlas list De La Hoya in the top 10 most influential fighters of all time. I just thought are you serious Teddy? while I don't have a huge problem with DLH being talked about due to his PPV status and $600M in net worth, I do have beef with shamelessly putting this guy into the same category as Ali, Louis, Leonard, Duran and the G.O.A.T. Sugar Ray Robinson. Naahh, that **** doesn't fly with me Teddy...nice try Scarface Atlas! Flavor of the Month ESPN ceases to amaze me yet again.

His left hook off the jab was without doubt a showstopper though.

Growing up I was a big DLH fan. And when you say that you almost feel dirty and ashamed to admit it because of the way his light went out in the sport.

Atlas doesn't fly with me at all. DLH as a fighter and his overall record will never stack up the guys you mentioned... and there's more to that list too. At his peak DLH was a joy to watch and when unleashed was devastating but too much has tarnished his legacy. I don't think there's much need to go into it.

Oh, Atlas doesn't fly with me at all. Not his biggest fan.

 

Hearns left to the body was a killer because of the leverage he generated leaning over with his lanky frame, his hook to the head was nothing special because he couldn't make use of that leverage from that position.
