Pernell vs Chavez for about the thousandth time and it still pisses me off. My old man told me he knew Pea was getting jobbed because as he said, son you watch boxing long enough and you get this 6th sense of when a robbery has been pre-determined from the door. A complete clinic, Pea controls a offensive maniac and the judges still managed to find a draw. This was one of the worst robberies I can recall. This fight is the epitome laughing stock of why Boxing got left behind in the 80's because of tainted corruption and setting the apple for casual marketing faces like Chavez over true artists like Whitaker.
Floyd V Mosley. Damn floyd put on an absolute clinic. Shane looked lost in there. Throwing throwaway triple jabs then nothing at all didnt notice one left hook shane threw. Floyds just didn't let him get anything going. Constant feinting and lead rights ****ed shane up. Can't see anyone getting close to beating floyd as Zab got.
Been watching a lot of Mcclellan and Mugabi lately and G Man was one of the greatest offensive fighters in History...period. Mugabi was extremely underrated in a lot of ways. Much like Bhop (well the Bhop from 2 years ago at least), Mugabi was a master at taking people's greatest strength and turning it into a weakness. Don't forget, it was Leonard who saw Mugabi expose some things in Hagler's arsenal to allow Sugar Ray to come out of retirement and face Hagler. Much respect on my end to The Beast Mugabi!
Eubank vs. Calzaghe. I love this for a variety of reasons. Calzaghe catches Eubank dead solid perfect early and graduated to a Bachelor's Degree in one night, Chris shows his smarts and toughness and starts to come on like a mad man in the second half. Great stuff! And by no means am I trying to carry the flag for Joe C Wales or overrate Eubank, but for anyone that questions these two fantastic fighters and their respective resume's...well let me introduce you to Kimbo Slice because the sweet science ain't your sport to follow.
Puerto Rican-fest for me this evening. Felix Trinidad v Maurice Blocker - tito's 20th pro fight and the night he announced himself to the world winning the IBF welterweight strap, absolutely anihilating the seasoned Blocker. Miguel Cotto v Kelson Pinto - one of my favourite Cotto performances, looked a beast in this fight with those sickening liver shots breaking down the much taller Pinto.
Matthew Saad Muhammad (Franklin) v Marvin Johnson I  What a fight and what a finish!!! This wasn't even for a world title.
I miss Tito, he had that vulnerability about him which alot of Puerto Ricans seem to have if you think Benitez, Cotto and even Juanma lately seems to have it as well, which is what makes them so exciting to watch. He was easy to drop but very difficult to stop, and arguably the hardest hitting welterweight of all time?
:yep one of my all time favourite fights, that was around the time at the start of the decade that i really got into the sport on a worldwide stage after mainly just following the uk fights growing up
