No fix, but from what I saw I reckon the ref was clearly instructed by the UFC he was not to stand them up at any point. I think the UFC wanted to do everything possible to give Sonnen the best opportunity to win this fight and end Silva's reign. The fight was embarrassing at times because of this, with Sonnen laying on top of Silva for extended periods doing nothing but snuggling.

As for Silva it was a dissapointing performance overrall. Either he was hindered by the rib injury he mentioned after the fight, or he just isn't as great as he is made out to be. I'm one that rates him highly, but looking back overrated and limited guys like Forrest, Leben and Franklin were tailor made for him to look spectacular against. And the passive lot of jiu jitsu guys he's fought were always going to be a walk in the park for him.

Henderson is really his only great win, and he struggled with his wrestling in that first round. I don't know what to think now that he gets completely dominated by unheralded Sonnen, not only on the ground (bar the submission) but surprisingly in the stand up aswell getting stunned on more than a few occasions. He really needs the rematch as much as Sonnen does and needs to blow Sonnen away as his P4P status and that air of invincibilty he's carried through the UFC has taken a major hit with that performance.

Thats actually a nice thought out objective post. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Silva is great but he is far from unbeatable given the right guy. And no Chael is not unheralded, I would say that barring a few old school guys like Monday and Kevin Jackson and Lindland of course, he is among the best pedigreed wrestler in MMA ever.

People are scared of Silva, they fight scared. Chael had no fear so he wasnt fighting myth hence his success in stand-up.

Well they stood up opening minute, then got into an exchange and Chael knocked Silva down and immediately went on top. Semi successful gnp for the rest of the round. Pure domination.

Second round Silva tried to be more aggressive and got taken down again quite easily. Again, semi successful gnp from Chael, dominant so far.

Third and fourth more of the same. Silva hurt Chael abit early in the fourth during an exchange but Chael shoots a left hand that knocked down Silva again. I think Silva also took Chael down but got swept. The fight was over basically, pure domination.

Then last round, Sonnen actually came out strong and aggressive and took Silva down again, good gnp some of the best since round one. It was embarrasing for Anderson. Then Sonnen got a bit sloppy and Silva threw on a triangle with about 2 minutes left and Chael was forced to tap.

Damn! Not at all what I was expecting. Dunno what's up with Silva recently.:huh Sounds like Sonnen deserves a lot of props for more or less backing up his **** talk. As for Silva, well he won but still.. I've read a couple of posts talking about a rib injury. What's all that about?

Its an excuse, everyones hurt in this game. He got manhadled and hes trying to salvage whats left of his Aura. Still a great fighter though. Take a guy like Bones Jones. Hes even bigger than Anderson but I can see a clash. He can no doubt take Silva down. (Im not saying hes a better wrestler than Sonnen) But there would be a telling difference between his gnp and Chaels gnp. Bones gnp is nasty.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking with regards to the injury. Guess we'll have to see how Silva reacts to this. Hopefully it gives him a kick up the arse. As a fan of his I'm growing tired of these shite performances, although in this case that may be more down to Sonnen imposing his will as opposed to Silva just slacking.

There was no point it should have been stood up though, he was beating him very badly the whole 4 1/2 rounds.

    Sonnen did no snuggling whatsoever.

I think most fighers are intimidated by Silva when they fight him and therefore allow him to dominate them. Sonnen showed no fear in there and ****ed him up.

look at how much damage silva took and look at his face. nothing. chaels face was lumped up, cut. watch anderson's intensity and movement, it looked like he turned it on and off when he wanted too. anderson gave him all of the take downs, barely took any real significant damage from the bottom, and delivered elbows from the bottom.

silva didn't get knocked down from the punch in the first round, he got hit off balance and stutter step backwards, the overhand rights where working for chael early, but watch how anderson took the punches, he rolled with all of them.

look i am no anderson silva fan like that, i think he is good at striking, but all of the mma guys have terrible stand up, so thats not saying much.

your an idiot he did take a ton of damage and one side of his head was swollen, and having very dark skin your not going to see every small mark are you? And why in the hell would Anderson give him those TD's when his best ability is in his striking.

His face not marking up does't prove anything, if it did Gatti lost every fight he was in.

    BJ never marks up.

Silva took a beating, no two ways about it.

Point out any point in the fight there should have been a standup.

Reading again, you must be a troll.

You think he gave up takedowns and only fell because he was off balance?

So basically you think Silva let all of that happen just so he could get a sub with almost no time, even though Sonnen cuold have ran the whole last round?
