thought lamotta won the first outing? also the 15 lbs advantage isn't that great if you consider that srr was actually the bigger man at 5'11" to lamotta's 5'8"

My initial two thoughts were Duran v Leonard and Ali v Foreman. But, someone mentioned Douglas v Tyson. In isolation, you'd have to look at that and say, just, wow. Only problem with that win now is the what happened to Tyson after that defeat and how Douglas didnt really a build a legacy for himself.

So, in my opinion, in a one off isolated result I'd say Douglas over Tyson. In terms of legacy wins, Ali over Foreman closely followed by Duran over Leonard.

For me, Duran-Leonard. And it's not just about the status of the fighters coming into the fight and all the things they've done afterwards. It's about the fight itself and the manner the fight was won. Duran-Leonard is the best fight I've seen. It's hard to find such great performances from BOTH fighters elsewhere. Duran's will when he spun Leonard after being on the ropes himself is hard to surpass. It's the kind of skilled warrior determination that you only find in legendary fights: Hagler-Hearns, Barrera-Morales 1 or Duran-Barkley.

I wasn't born when Charles fought Moore and Burley or when Pep beat Saddler, but I can imagine similar quality from both fighters.

Sanchez' tooling of unbeaten Wilfredo Gomez is a good one, if not quite on the level of those above. Robinson-Lamotta, Ross-Armstrong and Frazier -Ali 1 are obvoius choices.

    - biggest upset in the history of boxing
    - immortalized his name even though he's no ATG
    - it was just insane

Parts in bold - good point! Two world class boxers, fighting brilliantly.

In my opinion though, Leonard got his tactics all wrong. A lesson he learnt from and a mistake he never really made again. I dont like Leonard but you cant deny how good he was. I think Leonard beats Duran 9 times out of ten, but only because of the way he was defeated that night. I think, without that loss, Leonard doesnt become the great that he did indeed turn out to be.

Great fight and of major importance to both winner and loser.

biggest shock of all time no doubt....

but i have a problem with calling it the best win...because the tyson in there just wasnt the tyson that tore through the heavy's between 86-90....
it was a tyson who had been abusing himself both physically and mentally.....

    That's a good call indeed!

I would also say Louis' win over Schmeling in the rematch is up there. Louis was American, Schmeling was German. There was huge pressure on both guys. It was a year before WW2 officially began. Even Political people were interested in the rematch!

Frazier's win over Ali in March 1971 is up there aswell. Both were undefeated, both shared a then record purse of $5M, the whole world stopped for it!

LaMotta-Robinson has to be the best one, right? I mean a win ovd the GOAT when he's undefeated is amazing. Well he did get destroyed multiple times afterwards but that one win is beyond stellar.

Greb over Tunney, Burley over Moore, or Pep over Sadler.

Greb's win over Tunney is easily better than his win over Walker.

Ever heard of Greb or Langford? :think

Of course you haven't, you only know of mainstream big names, because you're a gimp with no boxing knowledge whatsoever.

Yes this is true. I am a gimp. And I have no boxing knowledge whatsoever.

Tell me, the Greb that you judge, is it based on footage?

    No it's not.

The difference is that I only comment on boxers that I've seen and I dont jump to conclusions or pretend to have knowledge of those that I have not. I dont profess to have an indepth knowledge of 'classic' boxers. I rate some highly on what I've seen (Louis) and others highly on what I've read or heard (Greb). But I dont know enough about most to thrown in an informative comment. So I dont.

So, excuse me if I limit my answers to the knowledge I have rather than the hearsay I've gleaned.

Great fight! One of the best of all time based on the comeback and pure dominance of Hagler at that time. Ray boxed Hagler where Hagler wanted to fight and Ray won. It was close and Ray had to fight in spots but you could tell who would win the "toe to toe" battle had Ray been stupid.

I think Ali vs Foreman would be the biggest fight of all time or Ali vs Frazier 1.
