Who would win out of Tyson and Jersey Joe Walcott? Walcott was old and faded but he was anhilating Rocky untill Rocky rallied late and koed him in the 13th (Rocky was behind 2,3 and 4 rounds on the judges score cards and really could only hope for a draw if it went the distance.) Jersey Joe could defend him self whilst coming forward - being able to land alot but not take much back i.e Tyson with his peek-a-boo style would give Marciano fits - and we know that Tyson can take a good punch - So Rocky couldnt really rely on that. I think Prime 4 Prime Tyson drops Marciano in the 1st and 3rd before stopping him around round 4 or 5.
A quick fight for Iron Mike. If this fight went past 3 rounds it would be shocking. Tyson has the size, strength, quickness, jab and more power against the limited hard will Rocky Marciano.
Just some things: For instance, Archie Moore was on a terrific streak of wins and had a good heavyweight career going in addition to being the reigning light heavyweight champion when he fought Marciano. He hadn't lost in years at any weight at the time. He clearly earned his position as the number one heavyweight contender. People make it sound like he was a corpse. That is flat out wrong. Not to mention, Marciano and Moore were both 188 pounds on fight night. Also, Tyson wasn't the lineal champ like Marciano was until he beat Spinks. He defended that title only twice, before losing it to Buster Douglas. He defended against Bruno and Williams. Tyson's lineal reign was less defenses, and less time than Marciano's.
the lineal title that marciano possessed isnt a relevant factor, and that is because when he won the title, it was the universally recognised unified title...in the J.J.Walcott title fight whereas tyson came into a fragmented heavyweight division, and cleaned house and unified the titles....which is far more impressive. so i dont see why tyson NOT being the lineal champ is of relevance....:hi:
It's quite relevant to me, linear titles. I don't rank wins over Berbick, Smith and Tubbs over even an older all-time great in Walcott, personally. They were the "claimants" he beat while Spinks was the actual champion. From then on, after beating Spinks, former Light Heavyweight champ who moved up (as you pointed out for Archie) he held the title for two fights and got beaten by a man perceived to be just a good journeyman. And you talk about Marciano struggling with one of the greatest fighters of all time and number one ranked hw contender in Moore. :hi:
its different fighting 'all time greats' when they are well past their peaks..... lets take walcott out of the picture, and archie moore, no matter how great they were, they were definitely nowhere near their respective peaks, despite people saying moore was competing well at light heavyweight.....its like rating tyson's win over larry holmes at 38 years of age, when tyson blew him away, you cant even mention that as a great win, over an all time great....:hi:...and holmes had good performances before that against michael spinks, HELL he even went 12 rounds against Evander Holyfield FOUR YEARS AFTER HE FACED TYSON so lets focus on the remainding contenders... marciano: lastarza, don cockell..... LMAO tyson: spinks, bruno, tubbs, biggs, bonecrusher smith, tony tucker etc... :hi::hi::hi: you can try wording it however you want, but the above is just a true reflection of history matey
Tyson by 3 round stoppage. Everything Rocky can do Tyson could do better and Rocky was prone to cuts and was self made for Tyson style.
Here's another true reflection of history. Marciano's reign consisted of fighting the number one contender five times and the number two contender once. (although I'm just talking, I have no idea what we're disagreeing about or if we're actually disagreeing on anything in particular?)
if anything you need to watch the wars between ezzard charles and jersey joe, quite a few years before marciano was in the picture, and how they also took whuppings from a seemingly declining joe louis...by the time marciano came around, they just werent what they once were.....as was the case when tyson met holmes....
that doesnt mean ****, if lastarza and cockell were no1/2 contenders, its like saying tyson fought nothing but top contenders throughout his reign aswell......stop chatting **** man atsch
