Has anyone watched Pros sparring?

Just wondering what gyms you have visited and pros you have seen sparring and what you thought about them. Thanks guys

 

I've seen quite a lot of sparring but the one that springs to mind was Matthew Macklin sparring this huge guy (looked around 175) prior to the Amin Asikainen fight. He looked great and we all know what happened on the night.

I would like to visit a few gyms like Gallagher's in Manchester to watch their prospects but not sure if pro gyms only allow visitors on a given open workout day or not

 

It really depends on the Gym. Some of them you can just walk up and have a look but others are closed. The gym I go to is quite small so it's usually boxers only.

 

Call them or go there and try to get an interview with photos for ESB. Try and catch Joe in a good mood.

 

At my gym we have a lot of pros and let us spar with them which is real scary first time around hahaha. They train very very hard and are in unreal shape. Got a few fighters on the brink of british level.

 

Which gym do you train at and how have you gone on sparring against pros?

 

I sparred against Paul Applebys brother David not long after he turned pro, i was just starting sparring again, after a four year lay off. I felt i was doing ok until he dropped me with a body shot right in the sweet spot.

 

I seen a ex journeyman man pro - now works for Frank Warren - beating up a glamour boy body builder who came to the gym to train thinking he was the business.

The guy was crippled over with body shots - in tears afterfwards - and never came back.

It was a ****ish thing to do though - because just cos he had a good body - he had never boxed.

but he was bullied into sparring and beaten up by the gym bully.

 

I laughed.........

 

I've sparred with a couple of guys who went on to be pro boxer and cage fighters, etc - but they were amteur when I sparred them - when I was alot younger.

I got my nose bust sparring before - but I have never been down - cos I have a chin made of iron.

Used to spar this lad when I did amateur Boxing, also this guy only started Boxing about 5 year ago, I can remember it was about 6 months before I quit, I was only average though at Boxing lol.
