Whats the point of throwing if your not gonna land??When kotelnik let his hands go he was landing making it look easy.

Alexander has no power. He has a great chin and I thought he won the fight 115-113.
People want to see the knockouts don't see him knocking out any of the top guys at his weight.
Anybody know if he is a true southpaw? He seems to be converted he has nothing on his left hand.

Michiganwarrior you claimed Alexander's jab was impressive in the fight. From that statement we can only conclude you are bias and possibly actually influenced by Harold Lederman and using his arguments. More Compubox numbers you carefully avoided

    Alexander Jabs

    Landed-64

    Thrown -647

The point is throwing punches allows for the fighter to control pace and action. Even if 2 or 3 punches don't land, if you are punching in combination 4 or 5 shots.....1 or 2 might find their mark.

Devon by doing what he did allowed him to stay competitive against a guy who had his number. Devon wasn't gonna outbox Kotelnik.....so the kid did what was necessary to self preserve. He didn't give up when it looked like he would watching him in his "frantic" corner.

When it came down to business in the ring Devon went right back to fighting. he showed heart and determination along with a lot of talent. But he also showed he is vunerable and lacks certain skills he needs to improve and reach his full potential!

He's not "EXPOSED".....he's just showing he's got weaknesses in his game that can be corrected if the right actions are taken....but more telling the kid has a heart of a champion.

Props to Kotelnik though.....he won that fight in my opinion but was in need of a KO if he wanted a win in the champions backyard.

I dont think it was the worst robbery. It was a close fight, but i give it to kotelnik. He pressured alexander w/out really pressing him. He counetr punched very effectively to alexander just throwing a lot of arm & glove shots. I wouldn't wanna see a rematch though. Since hbo is setting up alexander/bradley, make that their next fight & get it over w/.

Given your history and reputation around here for not knowing very much about boxing or what constitutes 'good fighting,' it's more than a bit humorous to me that you've appointed your scorecard as the 'definitive' scorecard.

Compubox is a simple statistic, and it does nothing to differentiate between hard punches, punches that are inneffective, punches that barely land, etc. It's nice mainly for judging activity rate. And since you seem to forget this every time, allow me to remind you: Compubox totals for a fight are in no way indicative of how the fight went. Fights are scored by rounds, and the effects of punches and the general tenor of events are much more important than numbers.

skimmed some of the pages and good points but i think this fight hits a flaw in the scoring system.

let's say there were 5 round that kotelnik trashed alexander, 5 rounds in which alexander BARELY scrapped by and two swing rounds.

now, depending on those swing rounds, either fighter could justifiably get the win or a draw.

there is no doubt that kotelnik scored more clean punches and did more damage. but did he do so consistently in more rounds. he took rounds off and in many of those, you can make the argument for alexander. from what i saw there were about 5 or 6 rounds when kotelnik landed all those punches and did that damage and 5 or 6 rounds that he took off and alexander pecked his way to winning

alexander lost the fight as a whole perhaps, but we're scoring rounds and that makes it closer
