Just the guys opinion, everyone is entitled to their own, not out of the realm of possibility Khan beats Bradley, that everyone now questions the validity of Ring.

 

I know this is just fiction for a bit of fun but the bias is unreal.

 

the problem with this is you can become lineal champion and not fight anyone decent for 5 years. you should have to defend the title at least once a year agaisnt someone in the top 10, thats really not asking much.

 

Its still the "or what?" question though. If a body forces defences then it has to be willing to strip champs and break the lineal titles. The Ring don't want to do this. Either way, that has no effect on whether the Ring and GBP are fixing the ratings or titles, does it?

BTW in boxing you've ALWAYS been able to become lineal champ and not fight anyone decent for 5 years. Money and/ or public pressure usually help make sure it doesn't happen too often.

 

Yeh.....so if you don't fight a top 10 guy each year you get stripped, I don't see why that would be an issue.

A World Champion can lose their title by;
a) Losing a title fight
b) If a Champion consecutively fights 3 non ranked opponents.
c) Fails to defend there title agaisnt a ranked opponent within a period of 365 days.
c) Fails to defend the title within 365 days. If stripped for this reason they can regain the title by beating a top 10 fighter within a year of being stripped

 

Because they are a magazine Rob, not a sanctioning body. They've probably done it the traditional way because its also the simple and transparent way with very few grey areas (even with it this simple and straightforward we still have the conspiracy theorists).

 

I think Bradley would win it. Id fancy Khan to get the better of Alexander though.

Its because the titles are the "man who beat the man" (a boxing fundamental) and they don't strip champions that I DO take the belt seriously.

No its not. The lineal title is nothing to do with champions fighting the best challengers and never really has been. Its about winning and losing the title in the ring wherever possible. Fighting the top challengers is to be encouraged but its not a fundamental of how the lineal title works.

Of course it would be better if the champs consistantly fought the best challengers but if they didn't you'd have to strip them and thats where I have the problem. I'd rather maintain the linearity of the title than strip a fighter. Its a price I'm willing to pay for keeping the titles lineal.

I'm not claiming the way the Ring do it is perfect but its probably the best, realistic option at the moment.

If someone comes along with something better then I'll take a look at it. Until then I'm right behind the Ring title.

 

I think people are overreacting as usual regarding Devon. He's not crap all of a sudden. It was an average performance to say the least but I think he's shown he's a decent fighter against Witter and Urango. The problem is as usual people completely overrate and underrate people in equal measure, when he was winning he was better than Bradley now he's put on a bad display he's near bum status. It's ridiculous...

Khan and Devon are well matched at this stage, I see Bradley to be ahead of them both.

So if Chad Dawson beats Jean Pascal next week to win the ring belt at light heavy and his next defence is in October 2011 time to Courtney Fry, then 16 months later to Atoli Moore you would have no real issue with that as it stays lineal?

All you need to do is add mandatories to the ring title for it to become legitimate and taken seriously by ALL boxing fans and media.
