September 27, 2006 Old article but I thought it was interesting.... ESPN.com: In "Rocky Balboa," Sylvester Stallone portrays Rocky as a 50-something boxer returning to the ring for one more fight. If your doctors gave you clearance to the return to the ring, would you do it and who would you fight? Duran [laughing]: Mayweather. If I had the medical clearance to fight, I would want to fight the best. The best would be Mayweather. ESPN.com: How would you fight Mayweather? Duran: His same style. The smart fighter fights the same fight as his opponent. And as the later rounds come by, he makes adjustments and that's when his strengths come in. He wouldn't touch with me with his jab. I'm not [Arturo] Gatti. [laughs] http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2604943 Interesting thing is, that's what Floyd does. He did it to Hatton especially.
Duran makes it sound like he really could beat Mayweather. Then when he fought a guy who was similar to Mayweather in Benitez he lost easily over 15 rounds. Duran could not fight guys like Mayweather and Benitez and Leonard and Hearns. Those quick elite guys he could not beat, but he sure made an argument for beating them. And people buy his excuses.
Clearly Roberto Duran an ATG knows who the best boxer in boxing is!!!! I would like to see the *******s discredit him!!!
Of course they are going to ignore the fact that Duran gave Floyd respect. And did not claim an easy knockout victory. But how he would go about it technically.
I don't wouldn't like the sound of that though. Trying to out-do Mayweather in his own style? He could leave himself a lay way to claw back on the scorecards before he begins to implement his own pressure game. Perhaps he's thinking that he doesn't want to give his game away inside the first 3 rounds and then have Floyd figure him out, which is what always happens with Floyd. But surely Mayweather knows that at some stage he's going to bring a pressure game to the forefront. He would have to make adjustments as the fight goes on anyway, he's just going to lose rounds clowning around by the sounds of it.
Two dumb Floydettes plucking their feathers again? Look at the date of the interview - 2006, before Mayweather started his "let the welterweights settle the dust first" retirement.
Why would we discredit him? Hes right. The problem is that Mayweather CANT fight the same fight as Pacquiao.
In one sentence Boom Boom admits to being a ******* and admits that Floyd is the best boxer in the sport!:good
