The point you're missing is that Dawson has consistently beaten the top oppo to get to that position, though, Rob. I've said it so many times now, but The Ring's system has it's flaws, but even still it is bar far the best mainstream system out there.

When it comes to title fights, The Ring title is the only strap I personally feel is legitimate. You need to fight the best to get it. Not stripping champions, even if they are fighting cans, is a necessary evil in my eyes. How many Ring champs can you say have consistently fought poor oppo in recent years? Now, compare that to the sanctioning body mess.

no i get what you and gaz are saying, but add a mandatory rule and it become a legitimate world title thats better than the alphabets and we can begin to faze them out. i no that ambitious but the ring title becoming more credible would be a starting point.

theres other problems with the rankings like having people in multiple divisions. i just think if they followed the same rankings as the esb ones i run they would be in a better.

its not ideal stripping fighters, but if you look at the current ring champions half of them won the title when it was vacant anyway. at the moment theres only 5 ring champions in 14 divisions if the title gets pushed more to the public fighters will want to win it.

You've picked a very extreme and unlikely example (How much would Dawson get paid for fighting those two? Who would promote it? Who in the USA would televise it? etc etc) but of course he stays lineal, that what the word means. Thats not to say I'd be happy with Chad Dawsons conduct as champion, but he'd still be lineal.

I've explained that Rob, if you enforce mandos then you have to strip champs and the Ring feel keeping continuity of the title won and lost in the ring is the most important and simplest thing to do.

I agree with them, you don't. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

yeh I agree but feel champions fighting credible oppositions is most important. as you and others have said in general the ring champions do it so it would only be in extreme cases. defending once a year agaisnt a top 10 opponent is not much to ask is it? this rule would not make the rankings any worse it would only make them better, i cant even comprehend why you dont think it would be a good idea.

remember the Ring have given there titles away before and setup there rankings many times.

Re-read my post and the post I quoted.:deal

IF Dawson beats Pascal he will be Ring champ and the The Ring will start a new lineage starting with Dawson.

    Are you being awkward?

I've said the Ring. No champ is actually lineal these days. Wlad didn't beat the man who beat the man who beat......John L Sullivan and every division is the same. Champs in all divisions have retired, moved up in weight etc.

The Ring 175lb title is vacant and the 1st and 2nd fighting in a division is probably the best way to start a new lineage in the absence of an existing champion.

Just like Ezzard Charles after Joe Louis, Floyd Patterson after Rocky Marciano or Don Curry after Ray Leonard etc etc etc.

its impossible to have true lineal champions in boxing which is why them putting an emphasis on it is pointless.

No, i'm not being awkward :D but you are using the term incorrectly...lineal has got jack **** to do with the Ring bauble, and a unifying fight between the IBO and WBC belt holders isn't enough to start a new lineage....has Erdei definately left the LH division for good??

Come on Rob, you're just making this up as you go along, you hadn't even considered that point until I mentioned it.

Think about what you are saying.......

Titles are won and lost in the ring wherever possible, thats a fundamental cornerstone of boxing.

If that proves impossible because an existing champ has retired or moved up in weight then a new linage has to started when a suitable fighter emerges. Thats how boxing has always worked.

No wonder the Alphabet Boys have got the sport in such a mess when commtted, serious fans like you have that attitude to how titles should change hands, the stripping of champions and the importance of winning and losing the title in the ring.

I don't know what Erdie is up to, retiring hopefully.

**** the belts Ice, thats a complete red-herring. Those 2 fighters are rated 1 and 2 by The Ring, thats good enough to make the winner the Ring champ and (in my eyes) the starter of a new lineage.

Its not an ideal situation, filling vacant titles can be messy but which organizations belts the 2 fighters hold doesn't matter one iota, I'm not playing their game. Fighters make the belts, not the other way around.

Thats fine, and obviously your opinion, but I can't back an organisation that doesn't impose mandos, its the only way that you can ensure that the best fight the best...you will just end up in a situation that erdei did, taking the path of least resistance and holding the title to ransom

If you can be arsed read all the posts I've exchanged with Rob on the subject of The Ring forcing madatories, I've not really got much else to say on the subject TBH...

I honestly don't mean that to come across as blunt as it probably reads but thats the bottom line for me.:good
