I wouldn't trust people in this board to buy a used car from them.

I love the idea that Marciano is absolute death to sub-200 pound fighters, when in reality they're multiple times more likely to beat him then any super heavyweight.

    Seriously, the ****?

He had a life and death struggle with a 196 pound Walcott, being floored once and hurt multiple times.

Some feel he lost a razor thin decision to a 187 pound Roland LaStarza.

Dropped and stunned by a 188 pound Moore.

Some feel he lost to a 177 pound Ted Lowry.

With another ref could have been stopped by a 185 Charles.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

All these close calls in a 49 fight career. ALL against sub-200 pound fighters. He triumphed every time but with a longer career with his burn out fast style, it was inevitable one of those "small" fighters was going to take that 0.

What 200 pound plus fighter ever even remotely troubled him as much as the "smaller" heavyweights of the age?

Absolute ******ation to think he has a harder time with larger heavyweights then smaller ones. Reality proves that. :-(

    :?

So Foreman wouldn't trouble him more than Ezzard Charles?
of course that being Charles been in his prime, but still?

With that in mind, what 200+ pound HW in their prime that was elite did Marciano face and beat that makes you think they would be easier than fighters below 200 pounders?...if I am reading that correctly.

But yes, Ali asked the question of the others had they been in their prime...

But to your point, I do think there are some advantages that the fighters below 200 pounds have... like "some" are very agile, fast, combination punchers, better technique...
"Some" of the big guys can be plodders, slower overall, less punching, etc.
But they also can make up for it in other departments. And not all were slow, plodders, etc...

Interesting match-ups for me is still the guys below 200 pounds.

to the moron that said Patterson please just log off the website go get a gun and kill yourself. Please. Marciano would shatter that Glass Jaw so fast you would not even be in your seat yet.

The Joe Louis that beat Max Baer was under 200lbs if I remember correctly and he would have an excellent chance....I would favor that version. The Holyfield that ko'ed Quawi would have a good chance as well. Tunney could certainly pull it off. I think we have to admit that any atg could beat another on any given night. No one is invincible. Boxing has proven that many times thru it's long and storied history and Marciano is certainly no exception.

Sigh. I think Foreman would murder Marciano.

Very few come at Foreman and win, period.

Don't know what your viewpoint is?

Rocky fought more then a few 200-250 plus pound fighters and absolutely destroyed all of them.

The keys to beating Marciano are stamina in abundance. Enough power to at least get him to respect you, tricky punchers were the most effective ones against him, resulting in the only two knockdowns of his career.

    Other keys are great movement.

Not very many large heavyweights have those.

Sure, I think some 200 plus pound guys would have a good chance against Marciano. But looking at his actual record the small, sub-200 pounders are the ones that troubled him the most.

Patterson has a good chance of beating Marciano. Why is he a glass jaw?

look at how many times Patterson was floored. ge was floored by guys who didn't hit as hard as Marciano, like quarry, bonavana, or johansson.

No one take Rico's opinions on punch resistance seriously. You know Rico better than that, don't you?
