There is nothing Lanford, Fitz, or any of the others sub-200 could do to beat Marciano, he just brought too much but I may pick some of these smaller guys to upset some of the big men.

Charles IMO would beat a lot of the big guys and I like Charles over Langford but I see Sam being able to beat a few of these unskilled and under worked big guys, lets face it 5"9 James Toney did at 38years old and Toney was not in the punching class of Charles or any other class for that matter and not conditioned.

an ounce of gold is worth far more than 20 lbs of lead....

I remember a little Chinese senator between two big mid-western senators and one of them looked down at the little man and said how do you feel and the little guy said" I feel like a dime in between 2 nickels

He still gets floored easily, regardless if he gets back up. If he gets back up, then that means he has heart.

Bull****. There are plenty of reasons aside of having a bad chin for getting floored. And thus came into play with Patterson. He was often off-balance due to his style and he was very, very nervous at the start of every of his fight. He was never been floored past the 4th rounds. Did his chin somehow improve after 4 rounds or what? No, he found his balance and overcame his nervousness.

It's been known that he didn't have a good chin. you can't really argue that. just look at how many times he's been on the canvas. I don't know a fighter that's been down that many times.

It´s overexagerated bull**** and I don´t give a **** about things "that are known" when those "known" things are obviously bull****.

Patterson was never knocked out cold. What he had was a lack of physical strength and the fact that with his style he was often off balance and suffered balance knockdowns.

The signs of a bad chin is making a habit of getting hit and then either being sparked out cold or put in serious trouble by light shots. Patterson did neither. And it's not a heart thing really, it's just that he recovered quickly and sometimes went down without being really hurt.

    Liston I? Ingo II?

I imagine for the second nomination, he wasn't "out-cold" and motionless but completely blacked out. In fact, I could almost guarantee it. And that says nothing good about your resistance if that does happen.

Under 200lbs I think Louis (who was always around the 200 mark) is a terrible match for him. Joe would light him up. Dempsey is a very close match pretty much a pick'em. Prime Walcott and Charles would have a good chance maybe not favoured but not far off.

Over 200lbs there are a few guys like Ali, Liston, Frazier, Tyson, Lewis, Holmes, Foreman and maybe Evander. Then there are those big guys who were inconsistent but looked quality on their day like Witherspoon and Bowe. Haven't seen enough of people like Wills, McVea and Jeannette to know how they would do.

Ingo was a massive puncher landing the amount he did would stop over 90% of guys. Floyd even said he hit harder then Liston.

Fair enough but Liston and Ingo are two of the biggest hitters ever. And it's not like it took one shot from them to get Floyd out of there, that was my general point.

Very few people would have "good chins" if they fought the fighters Floyd Patterson did.

As for the thread, I'd pick Joe Louis over him but other than that I wouldn't bet on anyone beating him.

Dempsey has a chance of course but Marciano's edge in durability and clear edge in stamina makes the difference in that matchup. Marciano takes him out late. I don't favor any version of Walcott and Charles over him.

Sam Langford is an interesting one, though. The more I read and learn about him the more impressed I am. How does Marciano's crouch work against a bomber like Langford whose even shorter and more compactthan Rocky? That would be a fight for the ages, no matter who won.

Good Post MuchMoore. I am of the opinion that Rocky was one of the most physically strong fighters of all time below 200lb. He just had freakish strength. Do you share that opinion?

In fact, I would go as far as to say him and sam langford are both in the top 5 p4p strongest fighters of all time.
