When thinking about an all-time ranking for Oscar De La Hoya...

Well this is basically what I do. I go by what the judges said, but having seen the fights themselves, I still put them in proper context. Morales as well as Barrera came out elevated after their first fight, even though it will say Morales by split decision on paper.

 

That fight was closer on the cards than the story of the fight indicated, in my opinion. That said, I still gave it to Duran by a good 4 points. The closing rounds closed the distance dramatically, where it seemed Duran stepped off the gas and Leonard picked up the pace in Duran's stead.

 

Some people wouldn't have any complaints if Barkley had been given the nod over Duran. I say that's outrageous, I had a 4-5 point difference.

Scoring is as subjective as the next thing.

 

I don't really count them as wins...

I was one of the ones that scored the second fight close for Mosley.

I thought Oscar beat Trinidad close but clear. But also looking at other fights where Oscar arguably lost fights being awarded the victory... it equals out in that sense.

I have always thought that Oscar fought the toughest opponents available, and really truly tried to be the best fighter of all time by fighting the very best. I have always said, had Oscar won all of his fights, I would have him the G.O.A.T.:yep

Not many fighters have fought as many good/great fighters as Oscar.

 

I go by what the judges said unless the verdict is outrageous in my mind. I still apply common sense, and put the fights in proper context, though.

Those 4 names right there alone are much more than many fighters face through their whole career.

Oh yeah don't forget to add Prime Mayweather in there... God the more I think about it, the more impressive his competition seems..

 

I agree with that. If you really want to get a grasp on the fighters, you gotta watch the fights (the ones you can watch, anyway).

 

Its funny how people say Oscar got a gift against Whitaker.Whitaker almost lied down on the floor to avoid Oscar combos.

Oscar outboxed Trinidad and gave him a lesson on how to box.Whitaker didnt land 100 more punches on Oscar like Oscar did to Trinidad.

The Quartey fight was close yes,but Oscar knocking down Ike in the 12th and winning the 12th for a 10-8 round sealed the deal in that fight.

In the Sturm fight,Oscar did out work Sturm with good body shots,but i do see how people can argue the outcome.
Give Oscar some credit for coming up from 130lbs and taking on the big guns at 160lbs like you do for Manny will you! peeps.

With or without the loses,Oscar is ATG.

 

So in terms of rounds you had Quartey up by something like 7-4 before the 12th round.:huh
